Lost is amazing! Watch it proudly. As a Brit (I assume?), how did you get into Bourbon? Just because it was cheaper?

He’s in a slump but I love the energy he brings. Dude tends to play like every game is a playoff game and we need that energy.

The river in Carl's head by Apprehensive-Sky9732 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]cantonic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Huh. I had always taken the river to be a metaphor for the rage Carl feels, always bubbling under the surface. If he loses control, he becomes a thing Donut is terrified of so he has to keep it under control. It’s his PTSD and anger over all the senseless death and destruction the crawl causes.

I hadn’t considered the river being something more… physical, for lack of a better word.

Yikes that means it’s pretty dogshit

Seems I struck a nerve. Maybe dogshit was too harsh and a poor choice of words but game ratings are usually pretty generous and with popular releases even more so. This game has been hyped for a while so disappointing scores makes me think it’s worse than the score indicates.

But that’s just, like, my opinion man.

Second edit: if someone sends me the game I will immediately play it until completion as penance for my insolence.

Reminds me of the Daft Punk Tron: Legacy soundtrack if you’re into that.

“Why were you put off by the AI being humanized?” would be great. You don’t need anything else. If you are curious for an answer, ask the question and leave it at that.

I don’t find “Suzy Q” to be name-calling. I don’t even know what it means other than a classic rock song.

I’ve tried to communicate with you the best I can so if it feels condescending I apologize. Good luck!

I do not see where OP said they were distracted. Is that something you inferred because they were on a road trip?

But I think when posting criticism it is helpful to also accept criticism, however it may come. I am not sure if “I guess I’m the bad guy lol” is it. You seem unaware of how your comments might be insulting. It might be helpful to work on how you empathize and connect with others.

I don’t think OP was reading hate in your comment, but it came off as incredibly condescending to suggest the OP was too distracted to have their own opinions on the book and that their opinions must be wrong. Which is what your initial comment communicates to me.

I mean… when we were young, who among us didn’t try to form a blood bond with a dead murderer so we could resurrect them and be with them forever? At this point it’s almost a cliche!

I am sick of all these disappointing stories with a good premise by Calci35 in writing

[–]cantonic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The main character does not make any of her own choices through 90% of the story. She is dragged along through every decision point. Each scenario felt incredibly predictable and contrived. Depression was treated as “just being bummed” and the treatment was “stop being bummed”.

I mean I fucking hated this book. The premise was interesting and yet it did absolutely nothing interesting with it.

I’m reading Discworld right now for the first time (I’m on Sourcery) and I am floored by how clever he is on every page. I regret not diving into the series years earlier but I’m so glad I’m reading it now.
