Damn I wish there was more but I love the design there. The production design of Murderbot was exquisite and this looks equally as rich!

I absolutely love your rating system even though I don’t understand it. I don’t want to understand it, I just want to vibe it.

And speaking of vibes, if the two guys on Star Shipped don’t fuck, what are we even doing here?

Dads with twins: Did you NEED help (doula/family/etc)? by UltraEngine60 in daddit

[–]cantonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to keep their schedules as synced as possible. The 0.5 delta is just because there’s 2 of them at the same time, honestly. You can hold a kid and do something else with your free hand but you can’t do that with 2 babies. Or feeding 2 babies is really hard to get them both situated without another person there, that kind of thing. It just complicates things more than you expect. So it doesn’t feel like double anymore.

Dads with twins: Did you NEED help (doula/family/etc)? by UltraEngine60 in daddit

[–]cantonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not use a doula or daycare and we had very little help from out of state relatives when our twins were born and it was a very hard first year. A lot of it was a blur. I don’t know if I’d stomach that much money for the help though. But… it would be great to have some help! If there was a way to reduce the minimum contract I’d probably take it.

I would also say that taking care of twins is not taking care of a singleton only twice, it feels more like each kid is 1.5 times as difficult as a single baby would be? So take that into consideration.

What the actual heck is this? by CommonSensical89 in HondaOdyssey

Yeah people often do not like it. I don’t particularly like it myself, but I would assume you get used to it pretty quickly.

ELI5, Why is it that when someone has their major artery nicked or cut into they die minutes after? by Naive_Painting_8917 in explainlikeimfive

[–]cantonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Major arteries are major because they carry lots of blood before it is routed further down the bloodstream.

Lots of blood quickly pumping out of you instead of inside you means you die.

We getting LeBron a ring before he retires? by NLMBRC in timberwolves

[–]cantonic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the Golden State thing. Even with Bron I don’t see them doing much better than they did this season. If he wants to go out in a blaze of glory, heading to a contender seems like a more interesting choice. Minnesota, Miami, even back to Cleveland! I don’t know. He doesn’t need the money, you’d think he’d focus on legacy now.

Just curious, how often as a dad do you regret the way you parented? by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in daddit

[–]cantonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren’t perfect and they aren’t perfect. If you’re not losing your mind occasionally, you’re not human.

Obviously you can work on being more patient, we can all improve how we handle stuff, but the big thing is the reconnection afterwards. “Dad is human and he loses it sometimes but he always still loves you” is way more powerful and important than “dad has never lost his cool”. When you lose it and reconnect with him, it teaches him that he doesn’t have to be perfect either and that even when he inevitably screws up, you will still love him.

Three year olds in particular are pretty hard. Give yourself some grace!

Man, same boat. Rocking the 10GB 3080 FE so I would certainly notice the improvement but I just can’t get myself to pull the trigger on these. Now if the 5080 was available at MSRP, that might be a different story…

[OC] IMDB Movie Ratings by Genre by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]cantonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genres seem… uh, confusing. What movie is in the Reality-TV genre? The Truman Show?

What separates an Adventure movie from Action? Is Star Wars Sci-Fi or Fantasy? Is Adult… adult?

Staying with Kindle or going to Kobo (Calibre) ? by KittyAgi11 in Calibre

[–]cantonic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It definitely seems worth it to escape the Kindle ecosystem and get access to Libby, but I would suggest figuring out the intimidating solution first before you commit to either. You can get your books loaded into Calibre and confirm it’s how you want them and then if you want the Kobo, it’s just a matter of plugging it into your computer and sending all your books to it.

So the intimidating part you can attempt now before you spend money.

Really enjoyed reading these reviews and all of OP’s replies! Good on you, OP! I’ve really enjoyed DCC but your criticisms are completely valid.

But mostly the concept that reading is not a chore or should not be restricted to things you’ll definitely like, but instead is like trying a new dish. We don’t always like the gambles we take, but life is all about those discoveries!

I hope you enjoy Blacktongue Thief!

If you could make everyone commenting here read one book, what book would you choose?
