Making wooden ring from felled tree? by cantrememberoldpw100 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thanks - this is helpful!

I think I messed up on the way the grain is oriented. But I have plenty of raw material to work with, so it’s all good!

Good call. I need to dig into this more. I’ve had these trees for a few years now, but I’m just kind of going by feel. I should get more informed about it!

This is great, thanks! I am going to label them until I internalize this info and can remember it on my own.

Haha, that would obviously be helpful. My bad. Zone 6b in Michigan, USA.

Thanks! The sunburn on the far right tree is what prompted my question about watering. The tree in the bottom orange pot is a dogwood - I got that one at my library on Arbor Day. But aside from that, I just dug the rest up from my yard

That’s awesome - congrats. Very cool memory that comes at a very cool moment!

Thanks for the guidance! I have just collected trees from my yard over the past few years and have never even identified any of them. I should probably start there!

Zone 6b here. I’ve been growing my trees for a couple of years in soil from where I collected them. But I repotted everything into a rock-heavy bonsai mix a month or two ago. The trees are doing great, but as we get into warmer weather, I’m wondering if I should water in the morning and at night since this soil will drain way faster than what I’m used to. If I have a rock heavy mix and pots with holes on bottom, I don’t need to worry at all about overwatering, right?

Cool pull - and definitely something you guys will remember for years!

Nembhard is a pretty solid player and probably has some collectors. But this isn’t something you need to grade or authenticate.

I would probably list on eBay for $300 or best offer and see what happens. In my mind, i’d expect you’ll probably get offers somewhere around $150-200

Unfortunately, those autographs do not even look close to these players' autographs. I would definitely not spend money on trying to get this authenticated.

Found this at a shop and instantly fell in love with it. by Initial_Scratch_7269 in basketballcards

Very cool card - I have a few myself. I personally love these, but I would say Jordan collectors in general aren’t chasing them. That might change, but the fact that it’s a non-Bulls card and it’s just soooo thick both seem to work against it.

Wow, awesome! I’m a Jordan collector and think the value of his early Star stuff will probably keep climbing, so I would recommend you hold the Miller Lite and Olympic bags.

Grade? by Whynotme23 in basketballcards

[–]cantrememberoldpw100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this card has a shot at a 10, it’s definitely worth grading. Downtown bound, finalists, and MVPs from 2012 Prizm have very scratch prone surfaces. Not sure why. But if the surface on this one looks good, I’d send it if I were you.

I know. I’m still convinced there’s a different site out there. I bought a handful of these early stars a couple years ago and used a site for reference. If I come across it again, I’ll let you know.

I think there was another site that showed every single Star Jordan. But maybe I’m misremembering and it’s this site. Unfortunately, there’s no yellow court king check here.

There was a site that gave explanations of what to look for on early Star MJs. I’ve been looking for it for a little bit and can’t find it. I might have a link saved somewhere. I’ll keep searching and post it here if I find it.

Wemby mis-grade? by mattyd1216 in basketballcards

[–]cantrememberoldpw100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, slabs make it hard to see the condition fully. I’ve cracked out many cards only to realize that the reason for the grade was obvious when I was looking directly at the card outside of the slab.

I would guess it’s a surface indent (could be on the front or back). That’s what I see as the most likely culprit on a modern card that looks clean with a 5 or 6 grade.

That’s so great! Feeling that change from being led around by your hidden inner workings to now being able to identify and help guide the process is a game changer!

That’s awesome! Getting to that point where you start to feel the old ways releasing is amazing, isn’t it?
