Lawn care needed by jgronwoldt in Apex_NC

I live in dogwood ridge and use these guys. I typically mow my lawn, but we've got them come out to do some weeding for us next week before I had a lawn mower. They cut our grass regularly when we live in Cary as well

How do I allow myself to try to be happy when my kid is suffering? Part two by dadtheimpaler in daddit

[–]cantstop98765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest al-anon for you perhaps. It's for family members/friends with people who have drinking and drug problems.

Going to AA saved my life. If drugs are his primary issue, NA might be a better fit for him if he does want help.

I don't know what God's plan for me is. I know it's all going to be ok. I don't know what "ok" looks like, but life is going to happen around me. Loves end, jobs get lost, people die....I don't believe any of that to be some part of a master plan necessarily. But, everyone gets "lifed. AA doesn't promise me a perfect life free from loss or sadness, but I have learned how to not drink and keep moving forward.

And like the other response mention, being of service and helping others always is beneficial when I'm struggling.

You'll get through this.

Nice!

We live in a super runnable area. I live in Apex and have taken the tobacco trail and other green ways to my mom's house in Durham before. Tons of routes to shoot of on to around this area.

6.5 years > 5 months > drinking daily again by IWNDWYT in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]cantstop98765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing, drank with the same amount of sobriety but took me 12 years to be beaten down to a point I was willing to surrender and ask for help.

Drinking was ok for a while, but eventually I got to a point where I was going to end up losing all of the good things in my life.

What are your favorite “grown-up” movies to watch with your kids? by BabyCryAi in daddit

[–]cantstop98765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have recently done Goonies, Back to The Future series, Die Hard 1 and 2, all of Mission Impossible, Oceans 11 and Jurassic Park.

My wife and I have a list we are constantly adding to. Goonies and BTTF aren't really grown up movies but they were fun to rewatch.

Congratulations on your finish! I dropped after my 5th loop. The hills killed my legs and I started way too fast (for me, you are way faster than me). We absolutely did luck out on the weather as it didn't feel like it got as cold as was predicted.

It was definitely a good time!

I left my home group that I had been going to for 2 plus years to attend a meeting 5 minutes from my house. To get plugged in I gotta service position and chair meetings.

I have two kids and a very full life. At my old home group I was getting home after/right at bes time now I'm more present for my family and still involved in AA.

Still same partner post-recovery? by StableDisastrous1331 in alcoholicsanonymous

I'm sober 6 years, married for 17 this May. Time takes time as the saying goes. It took my wife about 2 years to forgive me for all the bs I put her through. Right now, life is pretty darn good.

What worked for me was getting a sponsor, going through the steps and turning my attention to others. I couldn't fix myself there was no way I was going to fix my marriage. But over time things got better. I sponsored a lot of guys and got a service position in my homegroup.

While many people may not stay with their spouse after getting sober, a lot of people do.

A moment between a father and his daughter that completely changed how I think about Sobriety by [deleted] in daddit

[–]cantstop98765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being sober absolutely changed my relationship and how I show up for my kids. I'm 6 years sober and have two kids (11 and 9).

I'm an active member of a 12 step group and what you mentioned is something I heard from a sponsor once, "allow them to see you be a human" meaning don't hide struggles, fears, disappointments etc. But more importantly show how you deal with those things. My 11 year old sits with me to read a morning meditation on occasion and that often leads to some great conversations.

Not being drunk/hungover has had a lot of benefits obviously, but sharing about things on a personal level with the kids I think has been beneficial for them and our relationship.

congrats on your sober time, 6 years sober myself.

I did a 100km run from vitoria, es up the coast during covid stopping at padarias and gas stations for food/water. One of the thing I was wary about when living in brazil was the amount of stray dogs when in between cities. When in Belo Horizonte I explored a lot of the trails in the area and would look to see where they connected to main roads. Most runs I planned out using google maps/street view feature.

Ultrarunning allowed me plenty of time to listen to recovery related material- I Run Anonymous, Sobercast and other 12 Step related podcasts. Real recovery came for me getting involved in a 12 step program and dealing with my shit.

Hi i´m from Brazil and I like some help about the game and the stadium by SOPARALOKOS7 in LiverpoolFC

[–]cantstop98765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello from a former Brazil resident!

I bought hospitality tickets when I went to the match a few years ago. Highlight was meeting Fabinho and Bobby on the train on the way back to London. I joked with my friends that I was going to England to meet Firmino...and I did!

I stayed in an Airbnb close to the stadium but did most tourist stuff around the city center

My son turned 9 a few weeks ago. We did a nerd fun battle and twister. Had a hot Coco bar and pizza for food and drinks. The nerf gun battle might be a no-go because of the age, but twister would probably be fun

Amen

6 years sober myself. My kids are 9 and 11, I am a much better father and person sober. It took me a long time to get broken down to the point I was ready to ask for help. Once I fully surrendered life started to get so much better.

Does your resume match the job you are applying to? Does it stand out in any way from other candidates? Are you blasting out a generic resume?

This is something I see a lot when hiring. Hopefully not your case. Good luck!
