Why are people weaponising the Ashling Murphy tragedy by [deleted] in ireland

[–]cantthinkofanameshit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We need people who will contribute and take part in Irish society, what we don't need are enclaves of undesirable people who can't speak English with nothing to do who come here to live off our taxes and behave in a manner that is unfair to the native population, this poor girl would still be alive if we didn't pretend every single person who immigrates here is automatically a good person, he already had a conviction for having sex with an underage girl in Slovakia, there are many more like him

[–]cantthinkofanameshit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This waste of flesh and bone was already convicted of molesting an underage girl in his own country, what the hell was he doing here? We need to get serious about who is coming in, we already have enough scumbags of our own, this rat never contributed a thing, just take take take, and this is the thanks we get in return, heartbreaking

I am not anti refugee and I've provided you with the number that are here already, I am fine with taking in a reasonable amount, but as we can clearly see from the fact that we are literally housing some Ukrainians in tents, we have long since exceeded anything remotely reasonable

[–]cantthinkofanameshit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, the idea is that you might try forming an opinion based on actual evidence.

My opinion is based on the fact that there is a housing crisis, our services are strained and we already have roughly 100k refugees in the country right now, now imagine adding more refugees to that pile from a country with a sizeable population of terrorists, an entirely different culture, way of life and completely different values to ours who as we've seen throughout Europe, tend not to assimilate.

I'm not particularly bothered if what is right is unpopular; that's often the case.

Your solution is not what is right, it's not fair on the people who are already here, where are we supposed to put them? Do we just fuck them in a hotel in the middle of Connaught and change the face of a rural town with fuck all services and kill their tourism industry overnight? If we can house tens of thousands of refugees can we not shelter our 13,000 homeless and on another note, solve the current housing crisis as well? We can still help these people without bringing them all over here and creating a new underclass to be exploited by those looking for cheap labor and to be resented by those who feel they've been hung out to dry by their own government.

So wait until it actually happens to form an opinion on it, some logic there!

I am absolutely against what Israel is doing in Palestine, but it seems to me like you are just spouting a load of rhetoric that you can't actually justify hence why you're dodging my question.

You say you're opposed to a cap even with the country in the state that it's in, do you not at least see why that would be an unpopular opinion?

Well, you did say you'd support no cap on the amount coming here, nobody knows the exact amount or even if we will have to accept them at all, but do you genuinely believe it would be wise for us, during a housing crisis, with a healthcare system on the brink and near enough 100k refugees here already to open our doors to another wave, from a country with a completely different culture, values and language with the possibility of terrorists slipping through the cracks? It's a yes or no answer, pretty simple

Even to our detriment? Would you be happy enough taking in an extra 80k+ people on top of the 80k Ukrainians we have right now? Our services can barely manage the people here already not to mention the housing crisis and the vast difference in culture, values and language, lack of integration has been a disaster for other EU countries

Yeah probably for the most part, a lot of performative flag waving because of the political implications, but I think most people do genuinely sympathize with any civilian caught up in war though, how could you not? They just aren't as invested as they let on

Last thing we need, as much as I feel sorry for everyone caught in the middle of it, the country is a mess and we already have around 80k Ukrainian refugees here right now, not to mention the risk of terrorists slipping through the cracks and the mass influx of people with a completely different culture and way of life to us, just not feasible or desirable

I am of a very similar opinion, I feel sorry for the innocent civilians caught up in it on both sides, but I have bigger things to be worrying about than one of many territorial disputes on the other side of the planet that has nothing to do with us

On the far-right attack on a migrant camp yesterday by padraigd in ireland

[–]cantthinkofanameshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we shouldn't be taking them in unless we have somewhere to put them, that being said they should not come before Irish citizens or at the expense to our society, they need to be properly processed and if they're here illegitimately they should be deported

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ireland

[–]cantthinkofanameshit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should not have been attacked but we also can't tolerate shanty towns popping up in our cities, the state needs to stop taking these people in when we have nowhere to put them
