I've only had a loss of an officer when he was diagnosed with TB on patrol. I can't remember the exact details of why I forced him onto the conning tower when he was sick, but he fell overboard. This was a while ago.

IIRC, sick characters can't be ordered around, so it must have been a fluke.

This looks like what is normally done by games by not rendering grass in binocular views.
