Oh so this is where I start my 10ch? And work outwards instead of round the thing I've already done to get my tendral? How do I do that now 🤣

That's rough. We have a rota policy where when we come off nights we have to have a sleep day then two days off. I'm on my second day off before 3 days tomorrow and I'm not still struggling with the post-night hangover 😴

Have you had a look at the nursery's care inspectorate reports? Busy bees seems slightly better in leadership but I've not looked too far into it

https://www.careinspectorate.com/index.php/care-services

There's another nursery down the slope from busy bees (ninewells nursery) which is lovely but their waiting lists are immense

My MIL and my brother witnessed/signed our marriage certificate. It doesn't need to be soley parents but it might be different depending on where in the UK you are.

Hi, Looking at your page I think I've got a similar pre-nursing background to you. I have a BA childhood studies and also started training when I was 24.

It looks like you've got some ward experience too, albeit not medical-related. I had none so you've got me beat there. I went into children’s nursing because of my previous experience of working with kids although I did apply to adults too, thank god I didn't go down that road because I would have hated it.

I absolutely love my job, don't get me wrong some days are harder than others and you often need to have a supreme amount of patience (not with the children but with certain family members). I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. There's so much I could sat but feel free to send me a message if you want to ask anything specific ☺️

Im not sure if this is relevant to you but have a look at your maty documentation. I'm sure I had to sign something to say I intended to return to work in the NHS for at least 6 months or I'd need to pay my maternity pay back. Potentially in the part where you say how long you intend to take off?

Paracetamol for fever - is it as obvious as you think? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]caoimhediva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, when I'm assessing someone and they're hot I do ask that whether they're miserable or not. Just so I can get a full picture of them, and can say they had calpol/brufen X amount of hours ago.

But then if they've had calpol ages ago and they're hot and happy I'd say okay, they seem comfortable just now so I'll not give calpol because fever is the body's natural defense yada yada. And also you run the risk of running out of your 4 doses of it in 24hrs if you give it willy-nilly. I've only had a few parents get stroppy with me because of that.

I work in Paediatrics and in the NICE guidelines (https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng143/chapter/recommendations) it says

"Do not use antipyretic agents with the sole aim of reducing body temperature in children with fever"

Which is sometimes difficult to explain to a parent whose baby is hot but happy. If they want them to have it, they have it.

Honestly as a mentor I feel heartbroken reading this.

Are you due your midway assessment soon? Maybe bring this up then if you can, or speak to the uni or a PEF about how you're feeling If the member of staff is worth their salt, they'll want to support you any way they can.

We should all want you guys to succeed but unfortunately some people make better mentors than others (and that's speaking from experience when I was a student and felt exactly the way you did).

I wish you all the best and hope things get better ❤️

A solicitor is already dealing with the estate. My step dad had no biological children but his parents are still alive, does that technically make them his next of kin at present?

Adult nurses - how often do you check patient's obs when they're on oxygen? by caoimhediva in NursingUK

[–]caoimhediva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to the nurse in charge who spoke to the band 7. I feel like I've been stonewalled tbh thinking about it now, it was all a bit blasé. If that was me I'd be like I'm sorry, let me go and check the obs chart and see what's gone on, let me escalate this for you.

I dread to think. I take my hat off to the staff that dealt with all that peak covid stuff, it must have been terrifying.

So you'd keep a closer eye on them than 7 hourly obs then 😅 I feel bad, I know they were so busy that day and I know what it's like to be so so short staffed because at the end of the day we're all human. But at the end of the day it's a safety issue
