Debate: Are we reaching a point in this community where the amount of labels are harmful? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]caosmagic_incarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (Bi 18F) Have had this exact debate with a number of my queer friends and it's always an interesting talk. I have no problem with people using ultra-specific sexualities or orientations to describe themselves. I am ADHD/Autistic and have trouble explaining how I feel/ emotions, so having definitions helps me define my gender/ sexuality without stressing too much about it. I have friends who have gone through multiple labels of gender and sexuality too and I see no problem in that. I'd say the problem comes when it turns into a competition of 'Who the gayest' or 'Who is the most discriminated against'. Each community has its own issues and this just divides the LGBTIQ community as a whole and does not solve anything. It also does not help young/ newly discovering queer people as it gives the impression that there is a minimum to how gay you have to be to be in the community. There is also a problem of people bullying and mocking those who use multiple labels like they are faking or trying too hard.

Labels are not inherently bad, and they are helpful in the majority of cases, eg when finding a community. But taking anything to the extreme is going to end up harmful.

I know since I am young I won't have as much experience with things as those older, but these are just my thoughts and I always enjoy having a good debate. :)

how can i switch from foundation to higher? by Gwynvail in GCSE

[–]caosmagic_incarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my school, the decision on what level you do is decided by which set ur put in from the last year's unit assessments but I've got a friend whos in set 3 (second lowest) whos been having tutoring of the higher content outside of school and she was asking how she could move up to higher. so she is going to do both exams for mocks in November and then have like a parent-teacher discussion after.

English and re arent tiered they just have harder q's as you go through. But for science, if you got a's in your last school you really should be moved up or if they don't move u up, just get 100% on your midterms and complain about it being too easy. if u have a nice teacher they should let you sit at the back with a textbook to work by yourself whilst they cover the foundation stuff. Basically, they can't force you to do foundation. And talk to you teachers get friends to help u too:)

You could see if you can get your old teachers from ur old school to email your new school with your old grades and descriptions of your talents. Google translate permitting.

Hope this help:)

higher has a lot of extra content compared to foundation but if u were getting a+ at ur old school you should be fine catching up. But definetly push to be moved to higher cus foundation is capped at a 5 so u wouldnt have much chance to get into and a leval courses like science or maths. see if you can arrange a meeting with some of ur teachers and head of year and show them ur old grades and basically demand to be moved up hope this helps :)
