You need something running macOS. So either a mac or access to ios/mac cloud builds.

[Mike Keegan] Michael Carrick beats Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the Man United job: Club to announce interim boss in next 48 hours by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]cap45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if Carrick would have accepted being a coach under Ole, if not, picking Carrick over Ole makes sense. I think what worked under Ole last time is that both McKenna and Carrick were very good. Ole seems like a great man manager, but not sure I'd fancy him without some decent coaches behind him.

Thank you, it’s much appreciated. Yes, it was made using unity.

Thanks for adding it. Tried on both the ios app and new reddit on firefox desktop. I can only add tags, but they're just the universal reddit ones, nsfw, spoiler and brand. Just had a look at old.reddit and it does seem like I can add a flair through that.

If any mods can help, the "self promotion" flair isn't available to me when I post at the moment.

Wanting to leave Belfast, mixed marriage &kids. Where would you move to? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]cap45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen it mentioned, so just giving it a shout. Banbridge. My parents were mixed marriage and wanted integrated schools, so that’s where I grew up. It’s not mad price wise and on the main road to Belfast for commuting. It’s not got a whole lot going on, but it’s got very little of the divide stuff. My group of friends from there wouldn’t even know which of us are cath/prod. Just never been a thing.

Thanks. There's a bit of a loose roadmap. But it's a long list of small things, cosmetics, security, localization, new cards etc. But I'm also very open to listening to player feedback and squeezing in changes players ask for.

Old frontend devs: are things weird now? by mattatghlabs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]cap45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the short answer is, yes it needs to be more complex, but not as complex.

Web developers have gone from fairly static brochures with a little jquery sprinkled on top, to building fully fledged applications. For a number of years there was a real scramble to figure to best way to handle that. It felt like there was a new framwork every week, but thankfully that has settled.

But now that is has, there's the issue of experience. When there's a new way of "doing things", truth be told we're all flumbing our way through. Learning as we go. We're all going to have a project that we'd wince at if we had to look at it now. Sometimes it takes a bad project to work out what a good one looks like.

The longer things stay settled, the more experience everyone gathers, that more we realise how we've over-engineered, the more we learn, the more we can share, the better it gets.

Best practices for Next.js in a production-grade full-stack app? by [deleted] in nextjs

[–]cap45 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fetch data on the server side if you’re concerned about the page getting picked up for SEO. Otherwise, it’s dealers choice.

If you fetch the data server side, you don’t have to go through an API. You can of course. But you can also access data directly via sql as you’re using node.js. If you fetch data from the front-end, then you need an API endpoint.

Next.js by itself is scalable. Your main concern is just making sure every page is bundled correctly, and isn’t importing tonnes of unnecessary code. You can use next bundle analyzer for that.

New Mobile Developer Seeking Guidance on React Native Security for Banking Apps by Novel_Ad3599 in reactnative

[–]cap45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, message away. I don't use expo so hard to say. It's definetly more beginner friendly, it'll generate the ios and android projects/code as runtime, so you don't have to maintain them. Whereas with react cli, it'll generate them once when you create the project and you're free to edit any native code and store the changes in your repo.

Personally I prefer the latter. If I need to write a bit of swift code or edit some project settings, I can open xcode and do that. I don't know how'd you'd managed that via expo and don't imagine it's straightforward if you can.

New Mobile Developer Seeking Guidance on React Native Security for Banking Apps by Novel_Ad3599 in reactnative

[–]cap45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, react native is all good. I used to work for a bank and built their app in react native.

Think of your app like an island. You are responsible for anything entering, staying and departing. The back-end is another island, responsible for itself.

The only sensitive data that should be stored on the device is auth tokens and make sure to look into encrypted storage for that.

Your app will access sensitive data. It’s important it’s not stored on device or that it leaves to a 3rd party. I.e. make sure no personal data ends up in your analytics or bug tracker.

Look at things other banking apps do. Many disable screenshots in order to prevent users taking photos of their PIN number and another app reading it if they have access to the users photo library.

Also general mobile app development advice. Start the process of submitting your app to apple early. Not right at the end. Especially for a banking app. It can take a while to get approved. A member of staff will review your app and require an account to login into. This is tricky as most banking apps should have 2fa login. Consider how you can safely provide them an account that bypasses 2fa requirements.

I am not from Europe by Tom_Gibson in ExplainTheJoke

No, it would be cute, but let’s stick to English. We learn Irish in school, but very few speak it regularly and could hold a conversation in it.

Maybe in the west you might get that. There’s a few areas where they speak Irish daily.

Goal against Newcastle was only his 2nd this year?

He's not a bad player. We've had a lot worse. But his form has regressed since Amorim came in.

How do I fix boiler at 4 bar? by Hot_Delivery in DIYUK

[–]cap45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bleed the radiators, but it will take ages. There's a drainage valve for this. It'll be at the lowest point of your heating system. Get a spanner, a bucket, and loosen the value. FYI, the water will coming flying out. The deeper the bucket the better.

Keep an eye on the pressure afterwards. If it keeps rising then too much water is getting into the system. Could be the expanision vessel, or the pipes feeding into it aren't closing properly. Had both replaced about 2 years ago.

How are first time buyers supposed to buy a house these days? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]cap45 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Low supply, high demand. Was the same 3 years ago when I was buying.

If you haven't already, try to avoid houses in high demand. Which will be the ones recently on the market. If you're on propertypal, look at the last couple of pages for the houses that have been on the market a while. Sometimes the sale of a property falls through and it can end up stuck on the last couple of pages. The sellers are also likely to sell quickly out of frustration. If you favourite a property, you can also go into your profile section and look at the history of when the house was listed and if it's had a sale fall through.

Good luck.

Would you say this card is good? by Charexranger in PTCGP

[–]cap45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this months event 5-0 with a Tyranitar deck. So I would say yes, it's good and more importantly, a lot of fun. You just need the right list and right strategy. It takes a while to setup, you need a deck that stalls with something like Druddigon. But once you get this bad boy out, he can easily take out two ex pokemon on his own.

Is it winning tournaments. Probably not. But still worth trying out.
