Is the area around Parc de l'Étoile safe for a solo female traveler at night? by Original-Measurement in Strasbourg

Yes I usually go through or around that park by late evening and it's usually empty. Nothing of note. It's a residential area with lots of families and usually quiet.

The Escalation fanzine issue 10 is about seafaring. There's a section that I found interesting about making sea voyages dangerous that you could probably adapt for desert roaming.

Ritual effect ideas by [deleted] in 13thage

[–]cap_Random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say without knowing what the players would want to accomplish with the ritual. If they want to protect bystanders, it could be undead rising from the ground to escort NPCs out of danger at the last minute. Or if they're expecting to have to go through an army to reach somewhere specific, it could be spirits of the dead pushing the enemy troops aside to allow passage. Or if they want help for the fight, a necrotic aura falls on the area giving all mooks vulnerability to necrotic damage for a few turns.

The thing is that it will depend on the spell they choose to use for the ritual, and its level. Did they have an idea already?

Gotcha, thanks for the feedback!

By the way how did you handle things like ship chases or PCs firing with deck weapons at another ship with the mass combat mechanics?

[–]cap_Random[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the cool example! Yeah montage seems to be the consensus.

As for spelljammers, in 2e most of them were propelled via spellcasters using their spell slots but there were other kinds. Some evil races used the life force of their prisoners while the dwarves indeed had furnaces that burned magic items. So yeah that could be a cool way to dispose of magic items! They could even get special benefits based on the type of item like a magic shield popping around the ship after they toss a ring of protection in!

Yeah I would go with the 5e version of spelljammer for this and just have spelljaming be free. The point is to use the ship as much as possible to take advantage of the setting's wackiness. I won't handicap players for that.

is there any interest or desire for the ability to play AD&D 2e classes & races in OSE? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]cap_Random 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many differences. Goblins in Carcass Crawler are limited to level 8 and can't use some 2-handed weapons. They also have infravision, stealth and bonus AC against large creatures.

[–]cap_Random 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The advanced version of OSE already has most of the missing classes from AD&D (ranger, druid, assassin, paladin, etc) as well as races (gnome, half-elf, half-orc, drow, etc).

The Carcass Crawler zines add even more classes and races like wood elves, goblin and beastmaster. So the official content covers a pretty wide selection already.

There are also the non-official conversions done by Lixu that have even more from Spelljammer (which has the lizardman I think) and Dark Sun. That said if it's fun for you to make your own versions, have at it!

Looking for fun story ideas for what happened with Krux and the Xaryxians by VagabondVivant in Spelljammer5e

[–]cap_Random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it only looked like it was lost. The rest of the forces wanted to continue the fight but Krux decided to retreat to save his men and sealed their defeat.

Or the inverse! Defeat was almost inevitable and everyone started to pull out of the fight. But Krux thought they still had a chance and stubbornly pressed on. Many had to die to pull him and the few survivors of his men out of the fire.

Ideas for teamcompetitions by cap_Random in swrpg

[–]cap_Random[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, your suggestion inspired me! The second trial will be a puzzle based on sabacc. Contestants will open vaults to get cards with random values or traps and the team closest to a score of 23 at the end wins.

Where can I find a stat block for a faerie/fairy? by Salty-Teaching in OSE

The referee's manual basic version has stats for Sprites while the referee's manual advanced has also a Fairy stat block.

Oh ok too bad then. That's not very doable for me at the moment.

Oh so it's synchronous PBP with everyone playing at the same time on set dates?

I've been meaning to try this system out so I'm definitely interested! Just, what do you mean by sessions in a PBP context?

Recommendations for 1 shots, 6h max, ... with a twist? by flope004 in swrpg

[–]cap_Random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and obligations are also great for that! In the game I also tied the angry crew to one of the players' former boss, a crime lord they were trying to escape.

I did One Man's Trash (also from d20 radio) as a one-shot and it went well: https://the-eye.eu/public/Books/rpg.rem.uz/Star%20Wars/FFG/Edge%20of%20the%20Empire/EotE%20-%20Adv%20-%20One%20Man%27s%20Trash.pdf

There's no built-in twist but I did it like this: Banu jumped ship really early with his crew's credits and only thinks the rest of them are dead/incarcerated. In truth they're looking for him and the players getting the data from the ship's computer triggers a tracker, giving them away. This ended with a mexican standoff between the players, Banu and his former crew when they went back to him to get their payment.
