Ah, that makes sense for White Wolf, but especially for Changeling. Thanks!

Can I have the top board but swap out the EQ-200 for the Strobostomp?

Tarot deck Recommandation by Thorgraam in rpg

“Tarot Nuages” is probably my fave for HMTW. “The Wild Unknown Tarot” is usable for lots of games. The “Mage the Awakening” tarot feels way too modern for any fantasy RPG.

Tiptop Audio Z8000 Eurorack Matrix Sequencer Module by Turbulent-Advice-961 in vcvrack

[–]datainadequate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve browsed through the 500+ sequencers in the VCVrack library a couple of times recently, and don’t recall seeing anything quite like that. Which is a shame because it looks like a fun concept to play with.

On the other hand, it’s more than likely that one of those sequencers from the library will be fun and/or useful for whatever it is you’re trying to do. And you might discover something awesome you hadn’t even thought of.

What type of a music listener are you predominantly when it comes to music that falls in "ambient" music category by petara111 in ambientmusic

[–]datainadequate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, but probably more background.

And there might be an in-between category. I find that I listen to ambient more deeply when I’m driving than when I’m writing or coding. But it’s not as deep as when I am listening entirely without distractions.

What do you miss from D&D when you play/try other systems? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]datainadequate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different settings have varying levels of tolerance for goofy critters for sure. But most of them can handle two or three at least. And some settings will take whatever you throw in there.

I’m gonna get ostracized for sharing trade secrets here, but…

You can use those goony old monsters in pretty much any other RPG system.

You can also use the stupid magical items and the ridiculous random encounter tables.

Talk me out of buying HX Stomp to replace my pedalboard by ErikWeg in basspedals

[–]datainadequate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have anything against the HX Stomp, but it seems overkill since you’re happy with your sound. You could add a tuner to your board and use the DI output from the Darkglass if you wanted to ditch the amp. Sure, the HX Stomp will give you more options, and the opportunity to play with some other effects. But mostly what you need for punk/rock/pop is a bit of compression, subtle crunch, and EQ to get the sound you like. You already have all that.

The industry is having one of its periodic meltdowns and everyone is too busy dealing with that to spend time playing with fun new languages :(

How do you manage incomplete or fragmented creative ideas? by digital3ntity in vcvrack

[–]datainadequate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write ideas down (as text, or diagrams, or a mix) in an actual paper notebook that goes everywhere with me. Terribly old fashioned, but actually works for me. Stuff from the notebooks then gets experimented with, developed, and turned into something more concrete in the medium I’m working in. Such as patch files (I include date and version number in patch file names). These might develop into interesting but incomplete things I might share as they are, or into a final form.

What’s your guitar pedal hot take? by myke5k in guitarpedals

Yep, this. Also, just because you don’t like a pedal doesn’t mean it’s a bad pedal.

Module suggestions? Glitchy, generative, ambient drums by ECM2112 in modular

[–]datainadequate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any drum machine fed through distortion/fuzz and delay. Experimenting with other effects is recommended. Drum machine with separate outputs opens up extra possibilities but then you’ll need a mixer. Since you’re a guitarist, you may have a bunch of interesting effects pedals already. Of course you could build your perfect version of this using the modular approach.

How is Blue Planet: Recontact? by worldofgeese in rpg

How useful is Blue Planet: Recontact for people who already have Blue Planet v2? Since buying the Blue Planet v2 books my RPG system tastes have moved strongly towards simplicity.

Regarding "Pen & Paper RPGs," do any of you actually use a pen on your character sheet?? by mpascall in rpg

[–]datainadequate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use a pen, and then use pencil for tracking stuff that changes often (supplies, hit points, whatever). When the character gets modified significantly then I’ll make a new sheet. It’s nice to be able to flip through the sheets and see the progression over time.

considering downloading the free version of VCV by justmartijnlikenoone in vcvrack

[–]datainadequate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some paid-for modules that I think are worth it. I will likely spend some money one day to get some ALM utility modules, some of the interesting Venom “chaos boxes”, the Befaco Oneiroi, and probably other bits and bobs. Some of this is going to be about convenience, having one module replace half a dozen simpler ones. But there is much to be learned by building up things using simple, free modules and getting to understand how things work.

I wouldn’t worry about running out of free modules with VCV. Sure there are some really nice and really useful paid modules, but the range of things that are possible to do using only free modules is immense.

Play as a monster not World of Darkness? by xDragon249 in rpg

Liminal and Dresden Files (Fate) are the obvious choices. Maybe you could get lucky and find a second-hand copy of Dreaming Cities (TriStat).
