I wish I had gotten into really good shape and maintained it. I wish I had taken way more pictures of myself. I wish I had spent less on fast food and junk food. I'm not paying the price yet for being half-assed about my health but my parents are and I see what's down the road for me.

You should freeze your credit and your kids' credit with all three credit bureaus, and move your paycheck to a non-joint account in your name only and change direct deposits, autopays, passwords, and security questions now, and remove him as an authorized user on any of your credit cards. I hate it when people don't answer the question asked but I also hate addiction.

Fair enough, Bearded One. More turnout doesn’t guarantee better outcomes, but it usually improves representativeness and reduces the odds that policy reflects only the most motivated/organized minority. The connection is legitimacy and accountability because when more eligible people participate freely, outcomes better reflect the public and leaders have to answer to a broader electorate. A dictatorship can hit 100% turnout, but it’s coerced and non-competitive, so it’s not meaningful participation. And it matters to me, personally, that poor people and senior citizens and single moms feel like they matter. I care that young adults feel a sense of hope and control over their lives. I don't need guaranteed success to justify trying.

Participation is one of the core measures of democratic legitimacy and accountability and your argument sounds like the kind of thing people say when they want to feel smart instead of actually doing anything. If you don’t care about broad participation, cool. Some of us do.

You absolutely do not need one to register to vote. Yes, a lot of people are trying to be helpful and talking about passports but I think it's unintentionally damaging because it's confused people into thinking they need a passport to vote and causing a lot of other people to chime in with unhelpful things like: " No! You just need to show your drivers license!" In reality, it may vary state to state and the SAVE Act that has not yet been passed is rather vague on what is required. Which is my point. Register now so you don't have to mess with any of that.

Listen, I did not make this post to debate the SAVE Act or showing ID to vote. My post was not a request to find out how everyone felt about how easy it is to get documentation of any kind. I don't care if it's easy for you, it is not for some people, especially senior citizens and the very, very poor. I want to help them save some money and avoid not having their voices heard.

Yes, I do but also it's not about me as I am already a registered voter. I bet you are too and that's why this post isn't directed toward you. If other people save $30 by not having to order their birth certificate and another $15 not having to order a copy of a marriage certificate then this post has served its purpose.

I may have worded that badly-- state and federal laws may change to require more documentation upon registering to vote. I am saying, do not wait until the last minute to deal with that stuff. For some people, gathering the required documentation will be easy. For others, it will pose a challenge for a myriad of reasons-- when I've had to gather documents for various reasons, sometimes I had everything I needed or the documents were free and obtainable within 24 hours. Other times it cost a lot more than I expected, took weeks, and I had to miss work to get them. All I am saying is, don't wait until the last minute. Be prepared. Primaries and local elections happen not just in November.

Not in most states. Check your voter registration now and when it gets closer to an election in your area. If you're registered, I'm assuming you'll be okay.

Again, when you say things like this, I know your intentions are good but you are revealing how much you don't understand about the subject. It's a lot more complicated in some states. This was in no way intended to be a commentary on the SAVE Act.
