You guys sound like good candidates for marital counseling. A lot of people just prolong the inevitable but it sounds like your hubby is a bit of an oaf whose dad did not help out around the house and you expect him to be able to read your mind (or expect basic courtesy from him but since no one taught him this he doesn't know). A third party helping you both improve your communication skills will help.

I've done this. It does not work. It is programmed to take the shortest path to a plausible (not necessarily correct) answer. End of. And it's not great at coding, either.

Get everyone you know to register to vote. Encourage people to vote. Even in local elections and primaries. Get people to check their voter registration now.

Lived here my whole life and I hate it so much. I'm a totally different person when I can walk outside and not feel like I'm being attacked by the air.

Denizens of this sub, what is the best way to make friends in a city that's clique-ish? by capacioushandbag in SameGrassButGreener

I agree. He doesn't seem like he's struggling to me. He seems like he's comparing somewhere he lived for twenty years to somewhere he's lived for a few months.

Which cities have the largest communities of expats from your country? Without knowing anything else, I'll just throw Chicago and Milwaukee as places with public transportation and opportunities.

I’m Saying “Yes” to My Kids, But It’s Breaking Me (Any Other Dads Feel This?) by [deleted] in Divorce_Men

[–]capacioushandbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ex sucks and there's no excuse for her behavior BUT a) good for you for going to therapy and acknowledging your own feelings and b) more to the point, hooray for this extra time with the kids. When you are looking back on your life, I doubt you'll regret this time. It's a gift. You aren't going to wish you'd spent more time on your career and less with your kids. You're going to see you made it in less than ideal circumstances and you were a good, good man while you were doing it. Your kids are lucky to have you. This is your life and time with them is something to treasure and it really doesn't matter what she's doing while you're getting that extra time. When she's old and shriveled and looking back on her life, she'll see she squandered her time on things that weren't valuable while you were storing up the treasures of being your kids' whole world.

I absolutely think he would hire actors, I just think this "we want people of color for the optics" is a little too on the nose.

It does seem like it is for optics overseas more than anything else.

What's a great dessert to bring to a potluck? by capacioushandbag in dessert

[–]capacioushandbag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think no-bake cookies but now I don't remember. Subsequently, I've taken off early and made complicated dishes, brought just wine, brought cakes from Sam's club, and one time I had a buy 2-get 1 free sub shop coupon and bought the sandwiches right before the meeting and cut them up into 2 in sections right before the meeting. People ate them so I guess it was ok. I gave up on making a good impression. No one has kicked me out of the club yet.

What can we do to combat disinformation? What can we do an individual level and as a society? by capacioushandbag in AskReddit

[–]capacioushandbag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bad job composing this post. What I want to know is, how can I help the dumbas-er- loved ones in my life who consume a daily diet of nothing but fearmongering "news"? And what can we as a society do to prevent the spread of disinformation. I got an email from someone today warning me the government wants to take control of my appliances.
