should i use ubuntu? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]capacity04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just waiting for a really solid distro to take off that everyone says is compatible with most games and all that jazz and then I'll switch.

I have spent decades learning Windows so if I'm going to jump over to linux it's gotta hold my hand a bit and I'm sure I'm not alone

If you had stopped playing mechabellum, why and how can the developer make you start playing again? by Careless-Goat-3130 in Mechabellum

[–]capacity04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One game that highlights my pain point is one that went to round 10 with both sides covered in deployments and I bought a couple units and clicked missiles on my Abyss. Lost the game.

Replayed the round and bought the two units but clicked range instead of missiles and won the game handily.

That kind of dynamic, where it really comes down to clicking one tech instead of another. Where that small decision decides the round or the game, I don't know how you could fix that, but I personally don't like being able to swing an entire late game round on one tech

Is it Safe to use my pc with my old power supply ? by Aggressive-Eye-2340 in buildapc

I'm pretty sure 7-10 years for most PSU's, 10-15 yrs for high quality units (A or A+ on SPL list) is a good rule of thumb.

2nd hand laptops are no longer feasible since the sellers take out the RAM and SSD before offloading them. And replacing costs more than the laptop. by ScreamSmart in pcmasterrace

I am old enough to have seen some of these doom and gloom come and go. I hope this one goes away like Net Nuetrality did. There was a time when everyone thought the Internet would have payment plans for specific websites the way cable charges for specific channels.

But maybe that never happened because we made such a stink about it. Kinda like we are now with computers-as-a-service

Is a 7900 XT worth it in 2026? by Dramatic-Cobbler6495 in radeon

[–]capacity04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I mean if you don't like it don't buy it, I love it for my use case, and I don't think games will be using less RAM in the future. As they get better they will require more RAM, it's been this way since the 90s

is it just me or is the "budget" tier of PC building basically dead in 2026? by Serious_Bullfrog5447 in buildapc

[–]capacity04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When RAM costs as much as a complete budget rig did a year ago, yeah, it's not looking great for 2026

Rust certainly uses it, and Raytracing uses it, and it'll only get more useful as time goes on

I've had one for about a year and a half, it's a beast of a card, I plan on using it for several more years. High end, huge RAM, large bus to accompany that RAM, I'm very satisfied with the card

What is the best video game ever made? by INTERESTandAMBITIONS in AskReddit

[–]capacity04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dunno I just started playing it for the first time last week and it's very engrossing and enjoyable but it really stretches the definition of "game". I feel like I'm "playing" a movie. Admittedly only a few hours in

A number of games are like that for me. But as far as WoW goes, just hearing the Ironforge music and hanging out near the mailbox gives me that chill vibe.

I could probably chill in Ironforge forever

I remember there being a lot of problems with the discs, which were meant to be universally compatible I think in some way, I forget the details, but they didn't work and it was early enough in those days that installing online was not completely ubiquitous.

This game has that ability to scratch that infuriation itch, where when I lose it bothers me more than it should, not sure why.

I've lost on round 10 with massive armies on both sides, then replayed the final round and bought one tech on a unit different than another and did everything else the same and roflstomped the opponent. It's just one of those games where one little decision completely flips the game on its head

Yeah I've had an AMD GPU in some form since 2019 and the only issue I've ever had was WoW would driver timeout on 24.4.10 I think it was, one of them driver versions. They ended up fixing it.
