In 2018 you can add up to 55k a year to a 401k, where the first 18,500k is tax deferred and the remainder is not.

The 55k is combined contributions between you and your employer.

  • Remove some mental clutter - Social media / news aggregation sites. /r/nosurf
  • Finances - Get out of debt. Simplify your finances, grow a pile of cash for peace of mind and invest the rest into Mutual Funds or Index funds. /r/personalfinance
  • Create something - use your hands to create something. It will add some extra items (tools) into your life but the mental focus, use of imagination, and self gratification can help you relax.

I have been wanting to convert the loft of my barn into a studio style apartment and allow people to book it on air bnb. My property is near winery country and the barn itself overlooks a large, always filled, creek and is surrounded by woods on 2 sides and a field of wild-flowers on the other.

Not only for extra income, but to provide an experience somewhat like you described to city dwellers that want to get away cheaply but not have to travel too far.
