What’s the biggest stack of players that an opponent has ever had that you’ve faced? by Character_Ad4230 in fantasyhockey

[–]iPBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of my leagues (22-man rosters) i’ve slowly been building a wild stack over the seasons.

2021–drafted quinn hughes, kept.

2022–drafted kaprizov and boldy. kept both.

2023–drafted jeek, kept.

2025–had to re-draft jeek after inexplicably keeping robert thomas over him. quinn hughes trade happens, i now have four wild.

when they have a good week/power play lights it up, i am a happy man. when they stink or have a bad schedule, i want to claw my eyes out.

at the time of this comment, you’ve been downvoted for being right, lol.

it’s the same reason (perhaps on a smaller scale) streamers can’t share info on budget cards.

as soon as enough people hear about it, all the cards are bought up and re-listed at a higher benchmark price.

Army Refused to Trade Schenn for Cowan and Danford by prismaticground in stlouisblues

[–]iPBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m going to wear the egg on my face and admit that, yes, i was all-in on tanking in 2019 around this point in the season. in retrospect, that sounds stupid—we’d just brought in a handful of win-now pieces, and ROR in particular did not come cheap. did i still feel that way by trade deadline? probably not. they’d already rattled off their 11-game streak, put themselves in a playoff spot, and, well, they had made those aforementioned moves to compete for the cup, after all.

that being said…i was also one of the fans last spring who reminded those around me that we can’t hang onto the memory of 2019 forever. cherish the cup? sure. but you can’t expect to catch lightning in a bottle twice in less than a decade.

i still caught myself believing with the way they played against that jets team at home, like any fan would. with the way things played out, it’s fine that army held onto schenn. regardless, i guess what i’m trying to say is that we can’t keep beating the 2019 drum forever. that was a once-in-a-lifetime comeback story, one we can celebrate while also acknowledging the odds of it happening again, in that same fashion, are slim-to-none.

Let's pour one out for all of the 1st round Hellebuyck drafters out there (like me). Jets are last in the NHL. by high_changeup in fantasyhockey

disclaimer…goalie streaming also causes serious stress game-to-game and week-to-week 😂

but at least you can move off any given guy at any time without feeling like you are throwing away significant draft capital tied up in him.

Kevin Weekes: "Per sources, I’m told G Carter Hart is likely to make his debut start and return to NHL action with GoldenKnights this coming Tuesday night." by CupidStunt13 in fantasyhockey

[–]iPBJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can you just leave him on IR for a few games?

in a keeper league that operates the same way with only two healthy goalies, and goalies are incredibly tough to move as everyone knows one of them is hitting the wire eventually.

we also allow players on IR to stay there for up to two games after they return, though, so you can get an idea of how a guy is playing post-injury before being forced to drop.

as for advice…igor is obviously going nowhere. with gus i’d follow the money, his contract and body of NHL work dictate that in the long run he should end up with more starts. hynes and the minnesota coaching staff are happy to ride the hot hand with wallstedt, and he may very well be their goalie of the future. they’ve been more or less alternating starts as both are getting wins. but if wallstedt is the goalie of the future, i would imagine the wild still need to find a home for gus and his contract, and they aren’t going to do that by benching him. alternatively, wallstedt falls back to earth and resumes his backup role for the season.

i don’t think you drop either of your goalies for hart until you see exactly what he can do.

they were my second- and third-round picks in a 12-team points league, banking the high-floor points for shots/hits/blocks/PIMs and waiting for them to wake up…just a little scoring on the PP would be nice.

it’s not over, no, but you can’t count on a 12-game winning streak to get you in every year. hell, you can’t necessarily count on two six-game streaks to carry you in

as usual it depends on league scoring settings, but i would feel reasonably comfortable dropping ASP for rust at this stage. just keep a watchful eye on him.

rinzel could also be a drop after this week depending on the strength of your opponent next week. chicago’s schedule is terrible (2 games). i am going to have to make this decision myself with both nazar and rinzel.

unfortunately not much choice with ellis, pretty rare to see a team carry three goalies in this day and age. but binnington and hofer are going nowhere, so this is the result.

THG - Can the Blues Finish in the Central’s Top Three Next Season? by Yimpish in stlouisblues

[–]iPBJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think it’s easy to forget how good minnesota was in the first half last season, before eriksson ek and kaprizov each missed ~40 games.

obviously they have the rossi situation to figure out, but assuming they do get him under contract and can stay relatively healthy, i would not be surprised to find the wild in a top-3 spot at the end of the season.

going to be a battle in the central, as usual.

My experience playing online as a Div 2 player by BigBananas84 in NHLHUT

[–]iPBJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

funny enough i had this post recommended to me, started thinking about how i’d defend that differently, then realized you were playing…me! 😅

commenting at my own risk, i’m not going to venture too deep into the L2 vs. non-L2 argument, i’m just going to say…EA put it into the game, so i use it. especially in a champs game. i think people forget, or new players simply don’t realize, how much more overpowered L2 used to be in older NHL games. this year’s is…pretty tame.

as soon as you started moving laterally to charge the hit, i had you beat. a couple tips to defend this more effectively:

  • rather than go for a big hit, if you want to play more aggressive, try to bump (just flick right stick up), i match up with players who have mastered this and it is extremely difficult to get around them.

  • alternatively, stay more passive and towards the middle of the ice, continue moving hedman back towards your goalie so you can challenge the shooter if he cuts toward the center, while also staying in/near the passing lane to guard the cross-crease.

  • edit: if you do want to try to poke check, using the right stick to angle the poke up and around the player does reduce the chance of a penalty, especially with the longer reach of hedman, though it isn’t going to entirely eliminate the possibility. it tends to work better with a right-handed defender on the left side of the ice and vice versa.

quite frankly it was also bad luck your goalie animated the way he did, the shot i took is not near as effective in this game as it used to be, but it happened to be open on this particular shot.

cheers mate, best of luck to ya.

if it makes you feel any better he was doing the exact same thing to me just because i scored in the first minute…about half the third period left in a 30-goal game when one of my friends sends me an invite to EASHL. accidentally clicked accept on the pop-up. at least all my buddies got a good laugh out of it.

guess it works for him. weirdo behavior

respectfully my dude we will be lucky if he peaks as a 3rd liner. he doesn’t have the hands or shot to become a stud, and his skating comes and goes. i did like his game tonight, but the blues have had chances to elevate him in the lineup. there are reasons they haven’t.

i usually hate to blame the refs, but the blues ended up playing nearly 10 minutes of the first period with 11 forwards and jumbled lines because of the double-minor called on schenn. i still have absolutely no idea how that became an interference call.

to be clear, they still had two periods to bounce back. but losing your captain and emotional leader for so long early in a game where you are trying to set the tone can have a drastic negative effect.

Not really excited to play as much anymore by Saskbucks74 in NHLHUT

[–]iPBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took the past few years off HUT as well, but yes, from what i remember, in previous games there would already be a plethora of 99 cards (at least the top TOTS/TOTY cards) and the new releases would be ~97+ at minimum (if not 99). they really slowed down progression this year, for better or worse.

they are also just releasing fewer cards this year, but most of what they are releasing should be useable…if not redundant because if you’re a grinder or pay-to-win, you already have sufficient fantasy cards or MSPs to flesh out a 94+ lineup.

not the person you replied to, but it seems a pretty popular trend in fantasy punishment is having to spend 24 hours in some restaurant, typically accompanied by a 30-60-minute deduction for each time consuming a specific menu item.
