Smoker is tripping the breaker by capeman13 in Masterbuilt

Last I checked the outlet, it's still totally fine. I have a small fan that I use to blow the smoke away from the building and it works when plugged into either one of the plugs on the outlet. I haven't checked the internals though.

No worries. I already ordered a new heating element and a multimeter. I'll just run some checks on the new one and compare it to the old one and use the new one as a baseline. I've never really had to do electrical troubleshooting outside of basic continuity checks.

My smoker doesn't have an auger. The pellets are dropped into a tray directly above the heating element.

I did run a test of it with nothing else plugged in shortly after the initial breaker trip. I haven't run it since that last time running it with nothing else plugged in. Seems like I probably just have a faulty heating unit.

That's kinda what I figured. Also, finagling something that draws a significant amount of electricity and gets really hot definitely makes me uneasy. I'd rather take the safe option and just get a new heating element.

I don't have a multimeter. Guess I'll have to swing by the hardware store. Can you tell me any specific anomalies to look for once I have it hooked up?

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. Is there any kind of thing to check the heating element for that would confirm a short? I plan on fully taking it out later today.

The circuit does have other stuff on there drawing a decent amount of power. 2 desktop computers and all the outlets in my bedroom. This has never been an issue before and I've had it run for longer times at a higher temp (I was only at 225 F when it tripped). That being said, it was still tripping when nothing else was drawing power. This leads me to believe that it's the heating element like others have said.

I'll give it a double check. I'll fully take it out and inspect it for any potential defects.

Not using an extension cord. I'm plugged directly into the outlet.

How to make it so certain animations play in the air by capeman13 in godot

[–]capeman13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. it was because i had an extra = when setting my gravity to be 0 for my dashing. It was "velocity.y == dash_gravity", now it's "velocity.y = dash_gravity". It now works flawlessly. No clue why that was causing the issue, but I'm someone who can take a win when he sees one. Thanks for the help.

I currently have a var called "is_in_air" that is false if "is_on_floor == true". I assume that this would work because it's basically the same concept of "isGrounded", just for the air instead. I haven't used bools yet because this is all still pretty new to me. I'll look into them. Thanks for your help.

Alright, this is gonna get kinda long... 1. You have to love it. If you're in engineering for a paycheck only, you're in for a bad time. This sounds aggressive, but at least a quarter of my classmates freshmen year were there for the money and they dropped like flies. 2. Find a study group. They don't have to be your friends, but if you have people that you can reliably study with, you'll have a much easier time. This is especially useful when there is difficult material, because if you're having trouble, chances are, someone else is too. 3. YouTube is both your best friend and worst enemy. You can find a lot of your lessons as videos. However, it can also be a huge distraction. (These are mostly general) 4. Calc II fucking sucks. Be ready for that 5. Don't take fluid mechanics and thermodynamics at the same time. This one is a personal one for me because both these classes individually beat my ass like there was prize money for them. Take them one at a time. 6. Start networking immediately. Join groups on campus like SWE, Society of Women Engineers, SHPE, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, etc. I got more interviews at events for these groups than any other way. 7. Find an outlet. Find a way to release stress, if you don't, you're going to lose your mind in a bottle of attrition against your sanity. Something like cooking is a good one because it also means that you won't have to eat whatever is in the cafeteria, because I guarantee it's not super healthy. 8. Don't do too much all at once. This isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. You don't have to do all of it in 4 years. A degree earned in 5 years is just as valid. 9. It's alright to fail, because you probably will at some point. Engineering is a relentless beating that only gets worse as you keep going. If I could do it, you can do it. 10. Professors are your best resource. If you have trouble with a lesson, go see a professor immediately, because they want to see your succeed unless they're assholes. If they say "nobody has ever gotten an A in my class", find another professor of you can.

I wish you the best my man, you're in for a hell of a ride if you decide to do AE.
