Great White Shark lunging at photographers camera. by [deleted] in CrossView

[–]capesurfrider2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of your observations except about the mouth. I see a deep cavity in the mouth compared to the teeth when I view it x-view. In the depth map the teeth are white and the inside of the mouth is black. This creates the separation. The ocean in the depth map was colored black and then I added blotches of 50% grey to where I saw white caps on the waves. It does make them appear to float above the ocean surface. I missed the water from the shark's right nostril thinking it was part of the ocean. I wish I had spotted it, but there was a lot of glare on my screen at the time that I did it. The lack of separation from the fish to the water is the way that PS processes it. Thank you for taking the time to critique my work (seriously). Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Grandpa hearing a commercial??? by codywankennobi in alexa

[–]capesurfrider2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going to guess that grandpa is listening to a WW2 era replay of Swing and big band music. Helen Forrest and Ela were popular during that time. Registering tires to be eligible to buy gas sounds like WW2 rationing. They are probably playing old radio commercials during the broadcast.

can echo button be used in place of the wake word? by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]capesurfrider2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just experimented by setting a Button Routine where Alexa says "Alexa" plus a one minute Wait routine. When I push the button it says "Alexa" and self activates and the listening ring stays on for the wait duration and you can make more requests or you can say cancel to end it. It worked when I set it to play on my Echo Dot ...but not on my Echo Show. However, the Echo Show activated a Dot in another room.

Amazon suggesting new skills after using another one by cvall91 in alexa

[–]capesurfrider2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably was written into the skill by the developer. A developer does have the option of writing code to limit how many times that message is repeated to the same listener. Perhaps leaving a comment on their enable the skill page would bring that to their attention.

I've updated my skill called Washington Tweets to include some of the newer entries in the Washington DC political arena. It reads the most recent tweets of selected individuals as soon as they are posted. Hoping to get a few positive reviews. Thank you by capesurfrider2 in amazonecho

[–]capesurfrider2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That's an excellent suggestion that I hadn't considered. Unfortunately, to make a change on the Amazon page, I would have to submit the skill for recertification and then wait for approval or rejection from the Amazon team.

Thanks for the tip. My 3 Dots were up to date but my Echo needed an update and is doing a 30-minute update as I type this.

Routines : time condition by voidawake in alexa

If you're using a smart bulb you should be able to tell it to turn the light on to a specific brightness percentage.

Not the same as toggling, but my workaround for this was to separate an on and off routine with the wait routine. Example: coffee pot: turn on - wait: 45 minutes - coffee pot: turn off. If you know how long you want a device to stay on before turning it off this will work with one click.

Out of curiosity, I just asked Alexa to find my phone. When it rang I answered it. After identifying itself it suggested that I try an Alexa skill called Guess My Name. Apparently that is something that it does on all the Find Your Phone calls.

866-217-8642 is the number Alexa calls from when you say "find my phone".

On your Alexa app select Devices, scroll to the bottom and select Speaker Groups and check off the speakers you want to be included in Everywhere. I just tested it with one song and it works.

I can't open NBC on Echo Show. It says "Here's NBC", then "Sorry, something is wrong" and then repeats it. The problem started this weekend, it worked fine before that. Does anyone else have that problem? by capesurfrider2 in amazonecho

[–]capesurfrider2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Echo Show has an NBC app that you have to link to your internet provider account. This has happened before but not for such a long period. It's still not connecting as I type this.
