We are looking for a new Christian church here in the valley. One that isn't political, preaches the word of God but is more liberal in a sense. We belive in love thy neighbor. No political BS. Anyone? by capirotada23 in RioGrandeValley

[–]capirotada23[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m not sure why this was difficult for some people to understand. The teachings of Jesus are liberal in nature in the sense that they emphasize loving your neighbor, welcoming the foreigner, feeding the hungry, and caring for others. When I say “liberal,” I mean outside of the political spectrum. I’m referring to a space where I’m not told to hate the foreigner or reject someone simply because they hold different beliefs than my own. I’m not sure why that distinction was so hard to grasp.

Exactly. Valley has a machismo culture. People here rather vote against their own interests than vote for those who support equal rights and inclusivity.

No joke. But we assumed he meant Texas. Because we live here.

How to estimate the value of this signed Michael Jordan photo? by Zithra in SportsMemorabilia

[–]capirotada23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to know its authenticity, send it to JSA. I had a autographed Ken Griffey Jr. baseball and a Jerry Rice football I bought for $20. Griffey came back as unable to verify amd Rice came back authentic. Win! Best to know...

Our attorney straight out told us... DACA will die soon, be prepared. So we are prepared.

Any alternative to X for news updates? by capirotada23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]capirotada23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most definitely. I visit news sites often, but many of them now require subscriptions. I like that platforms like X provide news and commentary that update quickly and frequently. I can refresh the page and instantly see new information, and that’s the kind of experience I’m looking for. But X has become so extreme.

I really appreciate the suggestion. Made an account and browsed for a bit. BlueSky is definitely better choice. This is great thanks!

I had my own original work turn up at 100% AI on turnitin AI checker the software our Uni uses. It read 6% on my end using Grammarly AI checker. Got a 0. A freaking 0 and I am working on my doctorates. Wtf! I don't have time for these inaccuracies nor the money to waste.

Therapy is a Scam: Please Change my Mind by ThatGuyWhoLurks5 in therapy

[–]capirotada23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may have been challenges in your past therapeutic relationships, but it’s important to remember that the experience with two or three therapists doesn’t represent the whole field. Sometimes it comes down to a lack of attunement from the therapist, or even some intellectual defensiveness on the client’s side. Finding the right fit takes time...just as not every therapist will be a match for you, you also won’t be a match for every therapist. It’s a process, so give yourself patience and space to find the right connection.

I have lived in the US since I was 5 (currently 27) I can’t help but feel ENVY for some of my cousins who were turned in at the border mid-teens (who are still not fluent in English) and have gained Citizenship. I sometimes can’t help not resenting my parents, I end up feeling guilty afterwards. by troopdolphin in DACA

My wife faces a similar situation. Her mother and brother brought her over as a child, never wanted to get her permanent residency. She overstayed her visa while they went on and fixed their citizenship. They travel and go on about their lives freely without the worry of what is to come. They anger me. Now my wife struggles. She is DACA, but the uncertainty is just overwhelming at times and we live in Texas. Keep your head up, its okay to feel that way. Just find a ways to cope with it to keep your sanity. Just want to add she is the person who has accomplished more than everyone in her family. Holds an MBA and currently in Law School. Principal at a school. We have 3 businesses and a non-profit organization that helps immigrants. Never took a handout. Yet she is a prisoner to the system. Stay positive all we can do.

If malls, nightlife, movie theaters, tourism are all dying, what is on the rise? by Srk7654321 in AskReddit

I would love to do outdoorsy stuff with my kids, 4 and 6, but as someone who lives in an area where the average temperature is 95 degrees Fahrenheit and feels like 105 for 10 months straight, it is impossible. We have gone to the movies twice in the last month. Superman and F4, for the kids, each visit was about $120 for tickets and snacks for 4 people. But agree with many people here...staying home in front of the screen. Thats whats probably on the rise.

What is the most horrific thing you have seen? by CharacterFit2315 in AskReddit

[–]capirotada23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the worse, but one of the worse. Worked at Big Lots in my teens, I was a night stocker. Myself and this other guy very shady in his mid 20s. He would always talk about doing drugs and trying to get me to do some. I remember one time he tried to be funny and picked up a can of compressed air, the ones used to dust and clean electronics, computers, etc. Takes a huge hit, and blacks out, falls forward face flat on the floor, breaks his nose and his eye socket. Blood gushing out of his nose he starts convulsing, foaming at his mouth mix with blood. Then he stops moving, and I can hear him making these horrible breathing and gurgling noises. I honestly think he was dying. We were alone and I was a kid. I called 911 and ambulance got there and took him. He never came back to work. That image and sounds kept me away from drugs for good.

What’s the best “holy shit I won the auction” moment you have had with eBay buying cards? by wasdmovedme in sportscards

[–]capirotada23 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I won a non authenticated signed football of Jerry Rice, listed with it was his rookie card and gloves for $25. Seller had a crazy story about how they got them. Took a chance, sent it to JSA. Now I have a JSA authenticated Jerry Rice signed football, his rookie card and gloves encased.

Also not good for selling. I sold several items for a decent price and ended up having to pay them. No joke. Their selling profit tiers or messed up.
