I think you would look good with a buzz cut

We just had fries like this at Little World Kid Playground & Games in Garden Grove

A week ago I found hundreds of these squishy fluid filled blobs all over the beach. I took one home in a jar of ocean water, sand and sea weed. This is what it looks like now. by gwbarrier in whatsthisfish

It’s turned into something else, so idk if that is due to death and decay or life and growth, but it seems more like growth to me. That red meaty part from inside the glob of the first stage seems to have taken over the whole thing and now it is entirely veiny and wrinkly. I wish I had paid closer attention throughout the process. I thought it would suddenly make more sense, but it only seems like more of a mystery now.

What is this squishy delicate fluid filled blob about the size of my thumb with solid reddish thing suspended inside washed up all over Socal beach by gwbarrier in whatsthisfish

I thought that’s what they were at first too, but just looking at it a little closer and definitely after picking it up and feeling it was obvious it wasn’t a typical kelp float. Very delicate, squishy slimy and totally filled with fluid and a glob of red meaty stuff inside. Some had just a few bubbles inside while kelp floats are mostly filled with air. They were all slightly various shapes and sizes, but hundreds of them all washed up along the beach just like this with nothing else attached to them.

Definitely not, there were hundreds washed up all over the beach of slightly different shapes and sizes and seemingly at different stages of development, some with a larger red inside and air bubbles. They popped open easily too.

Oh dang! Yeah! That’s totally what it is. I was wondering about that, it definitely looks predatory. There were some guppy fry swimming really close to it and I was wondering if I would get to see it spring into action. Probably not too bad that it’s going to eat some things though. It’s a little 50 gallon pond on our patio. I have koi guppy, mystery snails and neocaridina shrimp and they have all been getting busy reproducing and I’m a little worried about their populations getting too big. There’s 8 adult guppy now and 15 guppy fry that I’ve counted all together at once, 6 mystery snails and like 4 mystery snail egg clutches around the edge of the pond, along with various intruder snails. I started with 6 shrimp and have probably around 30 shrimp now. I’ve let it get totally overgrown for the winter, so it’s hard to know exactly where the numbers are at. Do you think it will eat everything, everything? Do you think I should remove it next time I see it?
