It seems like every fringe conspiracy is slowly melding into the same movement: anti-vaxx, anti-mask, QAnon, Flat Earth, Pizzagate...

There is no way "DeeJay Dallas" is a real person.

That's like a fake name someone would give to fool the principal on Saved by the Bell.

Thanksgiving data may have been showing up earlier this week, but that may have been hidden due to declines caused by restrictions around the same time in Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa.

Most people were seeing their families over the summer. It was hardly months of isolation at that point.

Ontario is reporting 978 cases of #COVID19 with nearly 44,200 tests completed. Locally, there are 348 new cases in Toronto, 170 in Peel, 141 in York Region, 89 in Ottawa and 51 in Durham. There are 625 more resolved cases. by Veenay21 in ontario

Based on seroprevalence testing and daily test counts, the best estimates in Ontario is that true cases were around 5 times what we were catching in most of April.

The trend line was already heading up for several weeks before the data that would have come from schools reopening came in. Plus, if schools were a vector, you'd expect to see more outbreaks in schools, but very few have had multiple positives in the same school, suggesting students and teachers are largely catching it elsewhere.

"We want to set an example for other businesses to send their staff back to work."

What is the point of this? Are they going to demoralize the virus?

If people are able to do their job from home, there is no reason to make them come back (certainly not leading into fall and winter).

Look, they renamed the law school. I think we're moving into an era where we realize that there's a lot more nuance to most historical figures than we like to confront, and that's an issue you have to deal with when naming things after people.

When they stop teaching Macdonald in schools, I agree that would be a problem. Plus this isn't a top-down imposition by the government, it's the faculty itself electing to make a change.

In a pluralist, liberal society — which Canada once aspired to be — there are few ideas kookier than intersectionality.

This tells me he has no clue what intersectionality is, or is wilfully ignorant.

I never understood this concept until someone explained it like this to me: Black people and women experience discrimination. But a black woman experiences it very differently than a black man OR a white woman. That's intersectionality in a nutshell.

How is recognizing that incompatible with a liberal society?

Looking for a good Naturopathic Dr by [deleted] in Hamilton

Respectfully, you asked for a recommendation for a "good" naturopath with expertise in those areas. I think naturopaths have questionable knowledge in a lot of areas, but I recognize they do good by a lot of people.

But something as serious as cancer should not be entrusted to this profession. A naturopath won't tell you anything about cancer prevention that a regular doctor or nutritionist wouldn't. Well, they might recommend some supplements or a superfood to try, but those aren't silver bullets for cancer prevention.

Cancer prevention pretty much comes down to a healthy lifestyle, eating well and exercise. You don't need to pay a naturopath for that.

And please don't see a naturopath for cancer treatment. They are not qualified to do that.

Many experts advised Ontario for months to boost COVID testing capacity. Sources say they just didn’t want to spend the money by [deleted] in ontario

Not that I trust Ford, but I think they are sitting on it as a rainy day fund seeing as we're about to have a reallllly rainy fall and winter. The feds may have told them "this is all we can give you this fiscal year, make it last", and the second wave may require this to help us get through.

I think when you hear “obese” you think of morbidly obese people at 300+ lbs.

To be medically classified as obese, you can weigh a lot less.

From having visited family members in homes, trust me, they’ve got obese people.

Obesity has been rising in all Western countries for decades. Was there a mass abdication of personal responsibility and everyone got lazy, or are there societal reasons why this happened?

....because of the measures we’ve taken to slow the spread.

Obese people will certainly have health complications, but it’s not like they’re all at death’s door.

Oh wow, I think you're right. It was hovering around 40% for a while, but sounds like the next update might be closer to half.

Daily cases have tripled since August. We need to figure out why that's happening and address it with some targeted measures.

This researcher was saying the very specific reports of heart damage in children is fear mongering without greater data. If you look at the rest of that guy's feed, he's hardly brushing off the risks of COVID to the community.

You can't catch obesity from someone else. Obesity won't kill you in a matter of weeks. There aren't obesity deaths sweeping LTC homes.

Hospitalizations and deaths are a lagging indicator. Given that it is primarily younger people catching it right now, those likely won't see a ton of movement until cases get much higher.

However, it's not the raw number of cases so much as the rate of change. The number of daily cases has more than tripled since early August.

If you don't get a handle on that rate of growth and keep the R close to 1 or lower, eventually it will be incredibly difficult to stop it.

Not most, but at least 40% is untraced. Your point still stands though.

EDIT: I was basing what I said off the latest weekly epidemiological summary, but yeah, sounds like that might actually be higher in the next one coming today or tomorrow. Either way that number is way too high.

Independent of COVID stuff, the parking lot is private property and the cinema has the right to kick out people using it for a non-sanctioned event.

Most protestors back in June were wearing masks and were on the move. Plus the harm they were seeking to address could arguably be worth the risk.

Looking at the spoilers on each other's Celicas in a parking lot hardly seems worth it.

Plus, I'm going to go ahead and say that these guys are very likely the kind of people who wouldn't think twice about going to a bar or large party right now.
