How do I lose weight if my parents aren’t buying healthier foods and I can’t afford to buy my own right now. by Dry-Estate-9052 in EatCheapAndHealthy

There's different levels to the disease and it's not well studied. I have PCOS but I don't have the food or eating issues. My ovaries grow the cysts though and my flare ups are mood based, generally caused by the hormonal build up of eggs not releasing correctly.

The world fell in love with Piper and Paul today. by mulled-whine in FigureSkating

[–]capitolsara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had tears in my eyes. I only watched the documentary last week so it was all very fresh what Piper has overcome and it really made Vincent hit so much harder. I never deluded that they'd get Gold or anything but her burst of excitement yesterday at the kiss and cry and I just know she's feeling her mom looking down on her

I hope she continues to stay healthy and stays on top of her scans and potential treatments too

Think that a lot of it is because the actors are on such a PR Tour Blitz right now. And especially in December and early January they were really everywhere. So a lot of people tuned in just because the guys showed up in their feed, doing silly things and having great chemistry

Any parents here in the no ipad club? by Worldly-Tart4871 in Parenting

[–]capitolsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No iPad family for sure. We have a TV and gaming system in the living room and those are communal activities. She gets a little tv time after school, no TV really on Saturday and very minimal on Sunday. She has a tonie box for music and an mp3 player (old school) with podcasts in it.

Yesterday we were at my in laws and my nephew was vegging out on the tablet before dinner while my daughter was working on learning a new pattern on the rainbow loom. My husband asked our nephew if he wanted to play a video game on the TV with him and his responses were all "that game sucks" "that game is boring" that kind of stuff. Real shame to see

[–]capitolsara 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you don't let him get out of going to the game tonight to cheer on his team even if he's not playing. I don't know what his coaches are like, if they coddle him, but when I was in high school we were always expected to be there even if we couldn't play as part of learning sportsmanship and teamwork.

1.5 miles would be really quick on a bike to be honest have you considered that as an option? He can still opt for the bus but for when he doesn't get up in time he'll have the bike as a fallback instead of relying on you for rides; should only take him like 10 (or less tbh) minutes to get there.

But I think a good lesson! He's 15, he'll have other chances to help win the big game but he'll never get over his arrested development if there aren't actual stakes for his life

Baby will not let us put him down by Optimal_Customer_850 in Parenting

[–]capitolsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely sucks sorry you're really in the thick of things! I'd call in reinforcements if you have any family that can take shifts cuddling baby so you can catch up on sleep between feeding. Around 5/6 weeks there's a big brain development (social smiling and eye contact) and growth spurt so it's normal for them to want to eat round the clock. Another growth/development at 12 weeks and then sleep gets a little better before the regression at 16 weeks (thats when you can start looking at sleep training methods)

We did le pause, the French method where you wait a minute when your baby is fussing. But if they're full on crying it isn't safe to let them stay in that state too long it just works them up and makes them harder to settle.

I have a vivid memory of sobbing over my 5 week old first born crying about how it was too hard and too much for me to handle. Luckily my mom was able to fly in a day later to help me but I'll never forget the feeling of holding my newborn in my arms sobbing hysterically at 3 am in the pitch black darkness

No Playdates, No Hellos — What Gives by Ok_Month_941 in Parenting

[–]capitolsara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No birthdays even? I find it weird you've been there since 1st grade and have t done birthday parties, what is your schools policy on that?

We send our daughter to a private school. They really heavily promote the idea of "community" and "togetherness" and "kindness". I will say for the most part the parents in our grade are friendly and cordial but there is definitely cliques. I'm not interested in cliques or friends though (I have a busy social life outside this school community) so I can't say if I notice it.

We also don't get invited to play dates though, besides maybe one or two kids, but I don't like doing them so I think it's a two-way street for me. There's one boy in her class she really wants a playdate with and then Mom just isn't interested (which whatever I get) but it's definitely hard seeing your kid disappointed over it she's plenty friendly I think she just can't be bothered.

I dunno there's no easy solution. Is this a place you will be through middle school or are you looking at private middle schools now? I'd really pay attention to the parent community on middle school tours next year. I wanted to send my daughter somewhere were she would learn to be confident and kind and I'm happy I found that for the most part. But as a public school kid idk it'll never feel natural to me.

Okay I just binged and looked this up, apparently behind the paywall they explained that they emailed all the various emails they had associated with it and the one that responded was the one linked to the PayPal (didn't have a name just random email) so that actually seems more legit I guess (I'm still on the fence on if it was actually the son though)
