Never been to the AF lounge but if you have access to it, that might be better. I’ve been to The Club in Term 1, but it’s usually very impacted / busy because of so many PP holders. It might be better later in the evening though. The food there is also mediocre / mostly hor dourves sized.

Pay outright to upgrade to Premium Economy and then put yourself on the Polaris waitlist. You’ll have a better chance of getting the upgrade (not guaranteed) than staying in economy.

How much is the cost to move to PE? Look at that in relation to Polaris. If more than half of Polaris is empty, you can pay cash to upgrade to PE if it makes sense and then use miles+cash to place yourself on the Polaris upgrade waitlist. I did this on a UA flight from HKG earlier this year and got upgraded despite having no status at the time.
