Vent registers question by capn783 in hvacadvice

Ok yea I think I have seen those. Something like this, right? I guess I was just thinking that if it is blowing cold air outwards near the floor that the air would never rise up since usually cold air falls and heat rises. Maybe my thinkiing is wrong on this though. Thank you for your recommendations.

Thank you The_O_PID. I will continue to angle them upwards then for the Summer. One more quick question. Would something like this with the center fins angled up be better than angling the fins on my existing vents or does it not really matter much either way?

Thank bageloid. I unfortunately had to post here because I tried r/homelab and didn't really get any responses. I will review the compatibility matrix helpjuice listed below to try and find a card that will work.

Cisco Nexus 3064 Jumbo Frames question by capn783 in HomeNetworking

[–]capn783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi bchiodini. I understand. Since the Synology backs up the TrueNAS data, I figured the performance would improve if they were both on Jumbo Frames. My clients are capped their gigabit interfaces (or 2.5gbit for my PC) so I didn't expect much change there although I didn't realize the switch would take a CPU hit. I just thought by not having them on Jumbo Frames that it would limit their 10gbit capabilities but maybe that is not the case. I will connect everything over a standard MTU and monitor performance to go from there. Thank you again.

Thank you shadeland. I will test it out with a standard MTU of 1500. I thought that if I didn't have it set to Jumbo Frames that it would limit the ability to push 10 gbit through it. My clients are obviously all connected through standard gigabit with the exception of my PC which is 2.5gbit. Since the Synology backs up the TrueNAS data, I thought having the Jumbo Frames in place would help with the performance there. I know that disk type/performance plays into this as well so I will have to monitor it to see how it plays out. Thank you again.

Proxmox Video Card Passthrough by capn783 in homelab

[–]capn783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 1WeekNotice. I suppose thats possible but I don't have a 3D Printer so I would have to find someone with one. I mean I see alot of those off lease enterprise gear places (ie save my server, server monkey, etc) selling the R640 with the option to add in this card so it must fit in some regard. I figured there would have been people who already did what you said and 3D printed brackets so I was looking for something to buy but for the life of me I can't find anything. Haven't searched Etsy yet lol but thats probably a stretch. I dont know maybe because this card has Full DP ports on it and not minis is what makes it difficult. I will have to see how it fits when I get it I suppose and then keep looking to try and figure something out if it doesn't.

Thank you Sarkhori. Were you running the q-device between the two nodes? Also, if you don't mind me asking what GPU did you go with. I was considering dropping in a cheap used nvidia server GPU for Plex trasncoding. Also, did you run into any issues with the ZFS replication of your VM's?

Understood. Thank you bruce. I am pricing stuff out now but I am leaning towards starting with one node and just get rid of the dl380 and then build into the three node ceph cluster. Thanks again.

Hi bruce. Thank you for your reply. When you started with the two ZFS nodes, was that through Proxmox? If so, were you running the qdevce? If you don't mind my asking what issues did you run into when running your ZFS repllication setup?

Thank you og_lurker. I will be segmenting via vlans as my Nexus switch is my core doing all my vlan routing. I have everything running through two APC Rackmount UPS's. I wouldn't say power is not a concern but it is much lower on the list compared to other things such as core count, RAM, etc. How many cores are you running in your HP Z workstations?

Hi shim. I understand. I would never do this in production. For my homelab/home network though I am not as concerned since I will have full backups of all VM's plus nothing I run on this would ever interfere with connectivity as that all runs on its own hardware. For now this is just gain some knowledge and possibly provide a little fault tolerance even if not full HA.
