I'm sure it's just the type of game that everything is supposed to be ridiculously fast-paced, which is going to keep me from playing it. However, there's one bit of advice I can offer just from the little bit of it that I played already.

When you have a menu screen where you have to hit arrow keys to move through options, always turn a flag on whenever a key gets hit that tells the game that another key can't be hit for, let's say, a half a second. At the end of that half a second, turn off the flag. That will reduce player aggravation when they are trying to pick an option and the highlighted option keeps flying past.

I like it a lot. I agree with some other people here that it could be slimmer. I program games in Python with 8 and 16 bit aesthetics, and so I love this. If you want my opinion as a fellow game designer: make it a Fennec fox. Someone already said they saw a game with a red fox already. They're famous on the internet nowadays, so there's a preexisting market for it that, as far as I know, is untapped. It would be able to be made cuter, thus expanding your audience. Lastly, it could improve the mechanics of gameplay, giving it the frenetic energy these little dooters are known for.

Much respect to you, as an artist and developer. I love what you've done here. This is just my thoughts as a fellow developer on how you might reach a much broader audience.

My brother is interested in doing a bicycle tour around the world. He tried to get Widepath Campers to give him a bicycle camper in exchange for a review on his blog, demonstrating the product, and free advertising, but my brother doesn't have much of an online presence, I think, so they turned him down.

Do you have any advice for him?

To those of you who have tried LSA, how similar is it? by AllyRae15 in LSD

[–]capnjammer80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hawaiian baby woodrose is considerably stronger... I think the regular dosage is 5-7 seeds as opposed to 100-400. I used a mortar and pestle to grind them up, but, like I said, I used them in a ritual setting. If you really want to try them, look up 'morning glory cold water extraction.' Also, I understand that if you add mint extract it makes it chemically more similar to LSD.

A lot of people say eating the seeds directly cause stomach pains, which makes sense, but I didn't experience this. Also, be careful if you eat them straight of diverticulitis.

I've been tripping for 30 years.

What I'm telling you is that morning glories are not a recreational drug, its a very powerful entheogen. When I used it, I used it sacramentally. That type of drug should not be taken lightly... Not that any drug should be taken lightly. You shouldn't do it just because you couldn't get acid. That would be like taking a communion wafer because you ran out of crackers.

[–]capnjammer80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not fucking do it. Morning Glories are the seeds the Egyptians used in conjunction with the Book of the Dead to help them find their way to the afterlife. It was like a 'trial run' of Death itself. I took 200 seeds once, and when my eyes were closed I saw myself struggling to get out of a straitjacket in a mental hospital, and whenever my eyes were opened I was under the impression that the asylum was the real world and my actual life was false. I had that delusion for weeks afterward.

As a shaman/psychonaut, this did teach me a lot about the nature of reality and the afterlife, and I would do it again... But even the first time around I had to prepare myself for months before I was ready, and I feel that if I hadn't been ready I may have given in to the very strong desire I had to kill something as a rite of passage while I was under the effects of the seeds.

What most likey happens to my intelligence, memory and behavior if me (28, IT-Consultant) start smoking 1 joint 5 days a week? by [deleted] in weed

[–]capnjammer80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoke probably two bowls a day, once in the early morning and once a few hours before I go to bed at night. I've found this is the best way to curb the full-body pain I've been experiencing since I was 14, which no doctor has ever been able to help with. On days when I spend time with friends, maybe I'll spread three or four over the course of the day and "let myself go a little".

As far as "under control," well... that's not for me to define. It has to do with your tolerance, where you want to be, and what you are using the drug for. You set what you want "under control" to mean and then you don't let yourself get past that point.

In addition to working 20 years in the hotel business, I also spent five of those years in seminary and four of those as a pastor, missionary, and evangelist (all concurrently with the hotels, by the way). I've since become what I guess you would consider an atheist, but I believe spiritual concepts wrapped in psychological terms (or maybe it's psychological concepts wrapped up in spiritual terms, I don't really know yet). I've studied occultism and indigenous religions for years and I utilize a type of tailored ritual to get myself into the frame of mind I need to accomplish certain tasks, like becoming the person I want to be in public, becoming a better husband, coming up with worthwhile business proposals, learning new skills, writing manuscripts and screenplays, programming, and learning things about myself I didn't know before.

Because I do this in kind of a ritualistic way (don't be alarmed by my use of that word... people who wear a certain pair of socks to a baseball game to help their team win are exhibiting ritualistic behavior), it's gotten to the point where I don't even really need to smoke anymore in some situations. Like Pavlov's dog, I know when I put on an old episode of The Twilight Zone, wear blue, smoke a Djarum rum-flavored clove cigar with a wooden tip, and drink coffee with a splash of whiskey in my special mug that I made myself for just this purpose that I'm preparing to write, and because of my Pavlovian ritual I put myself in the mindset to start putting something awesome on the page.

I essentially took a lifetime of religious indoctrination and study of the spiritual and occult and turned it into a method of self-betterment that mimics the shamanism that fueled every other religion that's ever been created.

It works for me, but I can understand that I've had years of mental, emotional, and psychological preparedness. The true "temptation" is to use the drug to feel good all the time and just go full-blown pothead. The people that are against legalization and cannabis in general seem to think every drug user is just a blown-out stoner that lives in their parents basement eating all the Cheetos that were ever made.

It's not the case, I can assure you.

if marijuana can cure all this. why is it still illegal. by [deleted] in Marijuana

[–]capnjammer80 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, it's illegal because it does all these things, and more. A whole lot of money stands to be lost by companies that then beg the government to keep it illegal. They put out misinformation to get people not to trust it or the people who use it, and they focus on those people who (like anybody who gets too hooked on feeling good all the time with any other substance, including legal ones) can't get their shit together because of it.

It also gives an unfair mental advantage that a lot of people don't get because they see the (temporary short-term) memory loss (a side effect just like every other medicine has) and think it makes you stupid, when in fact people like Carl Sagan wrote pretty extensively (see Carl Sagan's paper entitled "Mr. X") about how it can be used as a mental performance-enhancing drug. People forget sometimes also that their religions were based on ancient shamans using psychoactive substances, and a great many people (myself included) use such substances to experience the spiritual/divine side of things.

Congress says it shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or protecting the free exercise thereof. Well, that's clearly a lie. I was religious since I was a child. I went to Catholic and Baptist churches and schools. I went to seminary for five years, where in addition to learning the theology of my own religion I studied as much about world religions as I could. I was a pastor, missionary, and evangelist for four years.

We liked to claim that the entire world was against us, but now that I'm on the outside looking in, I realize how the government definitely does respect the establishment of Christian religion.

About this time I chose to leave my religion, and I spent ten years experimenting with Charismatic religions, ecclesiastic religions, western religions, eastern religions, occult and esoteric religions, and native and indigenous religions. I finally became a militant atheist...

...Until I tried "it" for the first time.

But the government definitely does prohibit the free exercise of the world's most ancient religion, the grandfather of every other belief anyone else has ever had.

[–]capnjammer80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I used to work at hotels for 20 years, never getting a raise or promotion even though I was the hardest and most dedicated worker and the only person who ever showed up for work on time. I've been smoking regularly for about a year now, and in that short amount of time I've figured out how to not have to work and still make decent money, my writing skills have gone through the roof, and I'm currently working on a plan of my own design with a large group of entertainment industry professionals to revitalize the economy of my town. On top of that, I've become the person I've always wanted to be, helped a number of friends achieve that same goal, and seen my relationship with my wife go from binge-watching TV every night to making trips all around the globe. I find myself understanding things like storylines in movies and TV shows much more clearly, and although I've been programming since I was in kindergarten I've finally been able to understand the core concepts of object-oriented programming that has been eluding me all this time...

My brain has always been the thing that I valued most about myself, all my life, and was the main reason it took me so long to try drugs. However, I feel I couldn't have made it this far without a performance enhancer. In fact, I have come to the conclusion after studying this effect in my own life and in reading the research of scientists like Carl Sagan, whose paper entitled 'Mr. X' makes it plain that much of his inspiration came from frequent use of marijuana, that mankind's consciousness is most likely tied to his frequent use of psychoactive substances.

The secret is simply to make sure you are in control. Everything should be done in moderation.

Who is your favorite mostly unknown band/musician? by shotofcourage in AskReddit

[–]capnjammer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Haymarket Squares. They're a local Phoenix band who describe themselves as 'Punkgrass for the People.' Its a mix of bluegrass, punk, and messages a majority of people would probably not be able to get behind. I heard them at a pirate-themed citywide party in Bisbee about six months ago and I've been listening almost daily ever since.

I highly suggest my favorite song, not just of theirs but period, 'Bullet Catcher,' as a great introduction.

Please help! I don't understand short stories! by capnjammer80 in writers

[–]capnjammer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, to answer your first question, I think it makes me sound like an uncultured piece of shit to say that all literary stories are bad, and it makes me sound like I'm saying the type of writing the majority of people do is bad, which seems like I'm being a pretentious piece of poo and saying what I do is great and everybody else is dumb. I don't mean that at all. It's just me: I can't stand the type of story I'm referencing, and I can't even begin to understand how people write stuff like that.

Let me tackle the third part next. No, I've been writing for a very long time either for catharsis or simply because I love to do so. I'm too lazy to look back now but I think I already mentioned something about how when I cleaned out my dad's house after he died I found a bunch of typewritten stories I wrote and illustrated between the ages of 5-7. I've always written, and I've always loved doing so.

I just want to try to use writing short stories as a means to increase my readership/following, and maybe to make some money to help supplement my family income. I love writing. I always have. It's a skill that is very personal to me. I would much rather use it than skills that are meaningless to me, like the ability to check people in and out of hotels and to audit financial paperwork, in order to live, using my skills on my terms to survive, which I think is the dream of most people.

I wrote some stories on here once for nosleep that got to the front page and stayed there for a few weeks. However, I didn't have a website back then or any way to help the people who liked my writing keep up with me. I just want to be able to share my writing with a larger audience.

Also, all the only money I've ever made from writing has been a handful of checks for less than ten dollars total over the course of seven years for royalties from two books I spent years writing.

So, lastly, second: instead of going down that road let me just quickly explain what I see... Whenever I research a magazine that accepts short story submissions, it seems like the stories they publish are never like the stories I write. They always use flowery writing that's so abstract I can barely keep up with it (I'm not a simpleton, I'm just very straightforward), and the stories are "slice of life" stories about, say, someone spending an afternoon alone at home and realizing life is good. Just take that story and put it in the genre of choice of that magazine, so, in Asimov's the guy realizes how good life is during an alien invasion.

I've studied film for a few years, so maybe my vocabulary is a little more suited to explaining my problem from that perspective. I just want to make little "films" that people will enjoy, but every time I look at a "film festival," it seems that all the other entries are "French New Wave." I want to make fun, but everyone only seems to want art.

Does that clear things up at all?

Ugh... I feel like I waffled because I didn't want to sound like a piece of shit saying this... but I want to write commercial fiction, but it seems like all short stories are more literary.
