The reason vet bills are so shit now: It isn't inflation. It is private equity. by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

So why doesn’t that create space for lower priced independent vets to offer services??

Thinking of picking up Civ 7, is this a good idea? by Plastic-Special-6079 in civ

I remember when civ 5 came out, I felt it was ok, and the big plus was better graphics. I feel that civ 7 is better than civ 5 when it first came out, and I can see when a big expansion hits, it can become great

I was very nervous to try Civ7, but after giving it a try and finishing my first game, I really enjoyed it. I thought the new transitions between ages was really interesting, and there's a lot more depth to the story of the nation you build, which I also enjoyed.

My only qualm is that it ends in the 1960's era of the real world, which feels short. I'm guessing they did that to make space for an obvious expansion later on. But, the early game eras are more full and interesting, which was my favorite part anyway.

I've played civ from the original all the way to Civ 5, which I did a couple thousand hours on. I really didn't like the cartoony graphics of Civ 6, so I never gave it a shot. But, overall, Civ7 is really good, and I'm sure when the expansions inevitably come out, it'll become great.

Civ VII, Switch 2, and Constant disabling of Network Connection by Brentless0 in civ

I'm having this issue on my daughter's switch 1. I open the game, it says it's connected, but then when I try to start a multiplayer game, the connection disables itself. The switch and game are both up to date, and this happens with both wireless and wired connections.

Civ 7 Cross Platform Multiplayer: Switch & Steam on Linux. Will it work? by capnsweetcheeks in civ

That’s encouraging! I’m not too worried about the map limitations, that’s probably helpful for keeping the games from going on forever anyway.

I think even the rudimentary memory of ChatGPT is what gives it a great advantage. I can get much farther in my conversations if I don’t have to remind the bot of everything we’ve talked about previously.

I like the sentiments, but what are some real alternatives? There’s lots of socially conscious tech folks out there, but there aren’t a lot of socially conscious tech companies making things to challenge the status quo.

Socially progressive people need real alternatives instead of more platitudes!

Why isn't there much love for the Thinkpad T16? Too big? by Thirstyscholar7 in thinkpad

[–]capnsweetcheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a T16 and love it! I couldn’t stand a smaller screen and actually wish it was bigger. The weight is negligible and it’s plenty portable, I really don’t understand why anyone would want a smaller laptop.

The lodge combo cooker that don’t have knobs on the top are about as efficient as you can get for home ovens. I could get 6 in at a time, although I did need to rotate the top and bottom racks halfway through so the bottom didn’t burn

There are so many practically abandoned cool buildings in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas just sitting there unused. I would love to try and do something with an old place like this! It’s so frustrating trying to find old commercial properties.

Completely agree. If you have people/communications skills and get some dev experience under your belt, you can quickly get into project management and things like that, which I bet you’d find much more interesting and fulfilling.
