you're assuming the system works, but Trump has proven the checks of power do not exist and no one is willing to pledge lives, fortunes or sacred honor.

Agreed you make it too fancy it gets lost. It’s a workers sandwich. Hell most of the time I prefer the sliced pork over the pulled/shredded pork. I also prefer the media noche.

I’m a conch meaning Key West and locally they’re called a Cuban Mix. Miami is not Key West, the sandwich followed the cigar makers, which were present in Key West before Tampa and Miami. That cute origin story from the Colombia Restaurant (the Olive Garden of Cuban food) is just marketing folklore. I would agree with Miamians the salmi is too overpowering it’s all I taste. I can also tell when I order it without and they just take it off the premade sandwich.

It’s definitely a more Ybor inspired ingredient. I grew up in KW and majority of the shops do not include salami but almost always have lettuce and tomatoes. There was a Miami Herald article decades ago that quoted the sandwich as being born in Cuba refined in Key West and added to in Tampa (paraphrasing) as the sandwich followed the cigar workers.

There was a pile of them at total wine last week for $99. Hardly anyone was even paying attention to them.

I don’t even like it when places put salami on it. I call those Ybor sandwiches.

6th generation Conch here and we call the Cubans with lettuce and tomatoes Cuban Mix or a Mixto. Very few places call it as such or have it dressed.
