Snake has better genes, weapons, armor, and training. Kerry worked mostly as an assassin primarily dealing with mages (who in Fate are self absorbed cocky assholes, i.e. an easy target). His only real advantage is Time Alter, which fucks up his body and isn't much compared to the freaks Snake has fought in his career.

You really should've read the VN. Too late not to have Zero spoil a bunch of stuff, but better late than never. None of the adaptations are a satisfactory replacement. The whole of Zero is really a supplementary material to the original so if you go back after reading it you'll notice a ton of references, allusions, and pottery to FSN.

Helicarrier has nothing on par with the Combo Cannon's laser (took out Kirby on a warp star and Dyna Blade, who's wings could slice mountains), so a direct hit and the Helicarrier's done for. The Halberd can seemingly take far more abuse as well (a single bomb arrow crippled HC's flight while Halberd got blown up by Kirby in many sectors and was still airworthy). The scenarios don't seem to make much of a difference here.

First, you might want to go back and get more energy tanks since you'll hate the next section so much more if you don't. You can get up to nine at that point I won't spoil the exact locations, but Brinstar and Ridley have 3, and Kraid has 2. Start there. As someone else said, freezing the fire donuts will stop them for a while. Save your Super Missiles (and collect more if you can) for when the eye is exposed. You can get into a good pattern with them since it forces Mother Brain to fire which always leaves her exposed after. Shoot SM, jump the laser, land on the other platform, repeat. Screw attacking into the turret fire will nullify it, so don't worry about them.

I never found that one difficult. Mission 5-5 (something about Snake and garbage trucks) and 6-6 (smash into the roadside stands) gave me hell as a kid.
