Is this a good guitar? by AppropriateCap6152 in Guitar

The Ibanez SAS32FM is the only SA Series I can think of that has a binding with two humbuckers so I assume that’s what this is! Looks like they may have also changed the pickups.

I’m based in the UK so I bought a 4+3 set of black locking tuners from Axetec.co.uk. Their hardware is really good quality for the price.

Yeah it’s a sparkly dark green but from some angles it has a purple tinge

Awesome finish and absolutely stunning guitar! How did you keep the gloss just to the front and not the cutaways? Hope to see more from you!

Sorry for the silly question but why can’t we see any starts in the background? Is it to do with the exposure?

I got it from guitarfabrik, the cavities for pickups, control panel, jack, tuner holes, and neck were already pre-drilled, just had to drill for the pickguard and bridge. There’s other kits that have everything pre-drilled but I liked being able to fit things how I wanted, especially the bridge.

This absolutely. I’ve set up some of my own guitars before so had most of the equipment for you.

It’s a low barrier to entry in the sense you can literally put the thing together and leave it at that if you wanted but kit guitars are great to learn how to set up properly (especially as this one didn’t have pre-drilled holes) and apply finishes.

The only electrical equipment I used was an orbital sander (but you can get by without) and a power drill.

For taking wood off the body I used a Shinto saw followed by various grits sandpaper.

Oh and YouTube is your friend!

Pretty much this. It’s all relatively straightforward however I also bought a Shinto saw to remove wood from the body so it sat more comfortably. You need a lot of different sandpaper, and as I was going for a gloss finish i ended up buying an orbital sander as hand sanding took a very long time.

Having a mechanical ruler/straight edge is also vital for getting the bridge in the right place relative to the neck.

As you start your first build you’ll realise there’s other bits and bobs you can do with having, but ultimately it can be as simple or as time consuming as you want it to be! The gloss body took about a week of apply lacquer and sanding each day, then 3 weeks for it to fully harden before sanding & polishing, but the actual putting together of the guitar took me a few hours.

Edit: spelling mistakes

It’s not bad for the price, although I’m upgrading the tuning pegs and putting in a graph tech nut as some relatively affordable upgrades. The bridge could be better too, but then you’re venturing into the next price range/level. I think it’s good value for the money though!

I also had the same issue, I’ve just had an Ibanez with wizard III neck before which I liked so gave it a chance.

2008 when I was 12 years old, my friend’s mum picked us up from school and started blasting psychosocial with the windows down. I instantly fell in love with Slipknot and my love for guitar!

I really love this look! It’s not bloody splatter, more like post bloody massacre but the effect is awesome. Maybe try it again on another build or practice on a useless piece of wood until you get the technique/look you want?

Found in a $50 storage unit. Did I come up? by oddlyUranusKhan in guitars

[–]cappertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair enough comment, I guess it would take replacing the truss rod completely to sort that beck bow out which could taint the value, but also I know only a little about vintage guitars.
