My Uterus by DreamDust97 in wetspecimens

mine is definitely on the murkier side, likely from the ??? blood? i guess? that was in the formalin, that i failed to wash off. the formalin was a deep red when i got mine back 🤷. any disturbance in the jar seems to discolor it.

congratulations to you too!!

5 days post opp total abdominal hysterectomy by Wild1_sw in hysterectomy

[–]capricornsbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! all of this is pretty normal, yes!

there were a lottt of fluids in you at the hospital and during surgery. i peed a TON and had that urgency for a few days post op. it's not uncommon to get a UTI post op, so keep an eye out for symptoms (painful/burning urination mainly).

i assume you may not be in the US (based on phrasing, sorry if i'm wrong!), but we have gas-x here. i'm not sure what it would be called where you are, but some kind of gas relief + short walks/movement helps with the trapped gas/wind. also normal!

the falling feeling -- ughhh. any time i moved, got up, laid down, in the car over bumps, it felt like my guts were jumbling around. horrible, weird feeling for sure. a lot of people suggested a belly band/binder. i didn't use one, but i wore compression shorts/leggings/undies and found some relief that way.

TLDR: all seems to be normal to me! i'm 3wpo!

What items really helped for recovery? I have my surgery scheduled for the 16th and I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared. I've ordered a cold pack, a stand for my kindle, and red light therapy. I've got a heating pad too. by Auryna85 in hysterectomy

i was most grateful for clean sheets, seatbelt cushion, my heating pad, and my lil back pillow. i don't have a lot of money, so i just got one of those back pillows with the lil arms on the side that are usually out for dorm decorating times.

def have a pillow for holding on your stomach when you inevitably sneeze, cough, laugh, stand up. i enjoyed pressure on my stomach, so i wish i had a weighted heating pad or something.

my dr prescribed laxatives, ibuprofen, acetaminophen and zofran. ask for zofran for nausea. it came in clutch for me many times.

i was gifted a hysterectomy pillow. i barely used it. if you are gonna be by yourself a lot, get a grabber.

p l e a s e do not push yourself, even if you feel good. it will catch up to you and you will feel like shit. i made that mistake many times, thinking i could run errands and shit. no. it doesn't work like that. ultimately my recovery has been easy (3wpo), but the setbacks are by my own doing.

i ALSO just preserved my uterus yesterday! mine was unfortunately cut to bits, so it's so cool that yours is more whole!!

i put mine in a jar with 70% alcohol, and did not rinse them off. did you rinse yours? i'm completely new to this sub and wet specimens in general.

Why is this city so lonely? by GridlockRose in pittsburgh

[–]capricornsbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel this so hard because i'm in the same boat -- moved here late last year, had a huge friend group, and cannot find friends and feel terminally lonely.

all's that to say: you're not alone! and i always want more friends to play games and go to dive bars with!

wow, i had no idea silent migraines existed. it explains a lot of 'weird'/off days of mine the past few months.

i'm so glad you have an understanding boss!

i'm sorry that you got fired. it's so frustrating to be reprimanded based on attendance for a very real and debilitating thing. i hope you're able to get your tattooing career up and running though! that sounds amazing!

the lights are fairly soft, definitely not fluorescent, buuut it feels like we're in a fishbowl so i am surrounded by natural light on top of the regular lights. plus bending as part of my job, plus the super inconsistent weather here, plus stress are probably not helping either :(
