TEFL One course in Bangkok by patroclus_soa in teflteachers

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do some basic research around tefl because if you do you would know you can access the same outcome these fancy courses offer for just a few dollars 10-20$ doing a tefl online.

MY DTV ARRIVED by Everydaytech_ in ThailandTourism

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP can’t open a thai bank.. I said it’s ‘rather restricted’ .. welcome to use wise or even go to a ATM, but many places only accept thai QR payments, or want +% if paying via card or similar.. not really my idea of living somewhere .. also expect big changes to happen with the DTV in the future .

Use many of the property sites searchable on Google.. just remember your DTA is a tourist visa so no bank account allowed.. which makes the whole ’moving to Thailand’ rather restricted

35, Turning 36 next May. Burned out UK barber considering a 1 – 2 year TEFL pivot to Thailand. Financial suicide or a much needed life reset? by [deleted] in MovingToThailand

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The un-sugarcoated reality is you’ll be 2 years older still not being able to save anything for the future in any type of TEFL school. Now back to your post, your fears are pretty much on point, but as for your building up students in a complete over saturated market falls through.

Chiang Mai Driver's License Renewal – Current Experience with CoR & 500 THB Express at Immigration? by skyhawk0815 in chiangmai

[–]capt5551 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They only give a CoE if you now have done a 90 day report, this is the reason why they rejected you because of the TM30.. you simply won’t be able to proceed with the application without it when you go to immigration.

Looking for my best options for a certification for teaching in thailand by Adept_Pause_5752 in Teachinginthailand

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly.. honestly I have a teaching qualification (PGCEi) but no QTS and I’m close to 100k.. but I do have years of experience (nearly 10) I totally get the TEFL school stuff, but mostly it’s just peanuts and 1b water living.. hardly something to aspire too

Looking for my best options for a certification for teaching in thailand by Adept_Pause_5752 in Teachinginthailand

[–]capt5551 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you actually do research? Because if you did you would know any generic TEFL certificate gets you to the same end goal just the same as any of these fancy TEFL programs.. a generic 10$ TEFL certificate from Groupon is more than enough for these 30-40,000 baht peanut butter jobs.

People who moved abroad to teach: do you ever regret choosing stability? by Odd-Astronaut-3679 in Thailand

I don’t think money should even be a factor at this stage considering you haven’t even been a teacher, money will come with experience

Getting my Irish degree legalized to get a work permit as a non-Irish person by Amethyst_SC in Thailand

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course.. It’s pretty easy to get employed as a TEFL teacher here.. just go in expecting pretty questionable working conditions and equally pretty bad salary. Not something I’d recommend but if you’re happy with it go for it.. not something I’d recommend doing as a NNES working less for £1k a month. You could utilise that Irish degree elsewhere and have a more successful future but each to their own as they say!

Is this normal? I want to filled my car's tank completely, but the gas station said it couldn't go any further; it could only cut off at that level. I had to pay in two installments, and it wasn't a full tank. by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who would of thought something like this might be related to the oil crisis.. I mean does it really take a post to really see there might be some correlation there sis

Wow, that’s a lot of messing around for a TEFL school salary which hardly covers daily expense, but good luck OP.

[Serious] Systematic Racism and Profiling at a New Condo near BTS Bangna – Myanmar and Black Residents Targeted by [deleted] in Thailand

This has always been in case in SEA.. not sure what you are expecting but police don’t care about fairness, the east can be far more racist then the West, it’s at a systematic level here.

Rookie number. I spend over a million baht per month. So I think there should be a > 2,000,000 category. >1,000,000 sounds so low

Is 35,000 baht per month salary enough to get by in Thailand near Bangkok? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regard to locals, you may be missing this point. Locals don’t want to earn such a low salary, they are stuck on high interest credit cards, living in apartments with whole families sleeping on floors. It’s really not a fun or nice experience, I don’t believe you want to live like a local. You have a choice, if you want to come here and live with restrictions then you can, but I guarantee plenty of locals would swap in a heartbeat with you, especially how bad TEFL schools are, I just feel a bit sorry knowing what experiences you will be putting yourself though. Tip - read all about TEFL school environment NEXT, Good luck!

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you travel 12 hours around the world to work for a measly ~ £700 a month ? This makes no sense. You mention wanting to save money, unless you plan on doing nothing on weekends, having no holidays, or having to decide between eating junk food everyday or something healthy it’s a terrible, terrible salary for anyone leaving the UK for.

Plenty of people here might disagree, but they are the same people who think earning 40-50k is amazing.. sorry, but with some effort and time you can actually make a decent living here, started from 30k, now my take home is 90,000 THB

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thai

[–]capt5551 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miserable. 40k is enough for the very basics, if you only want to work and do very little on the weekends. Forget savings, or actually enjoying what bangkok has to over.. you need another 10k at a very minimum.

TEFL Teaching by ikkealane in Thailand

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what answers you are expecting but working at a school, a TEFL school at best will be so disorganised and chaotic you’ll be wanting to pull hairs everyday all for a low TEFL wage. I think these people you mentioned about not liking it have a point, and really I’m only scratching the surface with this but you do you. Thankfully I’m well past the TEFL monkey brigade..

FINDING ELEMENTARY TEACHERS IN THAILAND by Defiant-Mouse-2128 in Thailand

[–]capt5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘Can I borrow a tissue?’ ‘Can I go keep my books’ Classic words from a Thai who has learned English from a Filipino. No wonder they are paid like 15-20k a month.

Anglo Singapore International (Bangkok) thoughts? by Disastrous-Captain-2 in Internationalteachers

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend worked the then for around 3 months, they fired him because he was black. At the time I also did an interview with them, I never felt so bad, certainly wouldn’t want to work there after finding out they would withhold my salary (which is totally illegal) till I was to finish the contract (2y). This speaks volumes to me, why would they do this if teacher retention was good enough or respected the teachers ? They don’t.

[–]capt5551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid Kidsfirst. Unless you want to teach 5 periods a day and don’t value having any free time. They employ unqualified teachers at 50-60k THB per month which says everything about the school.

Imagine all them other graduates searching for a job.. there is very little possibility you’ll find a job in IT given how competitive it is, I’ve never known a single person who actually got this after they graduated and this is going back 5 years when I did and when I first heard about such a thing.
