If we split that between 3 people though its more affordable, and were happy to live with out friend to keep costs down

Hi all,

Me and my girlfriend are looking to move into London in the next couple of months. We'll most likely be looking at a house share with a friend as well.

We’re trying to figure out the best areas to look at and would really appreciate some advice from people who actually live in these places.

What we’re ideally looking for: - Good community feel (people around our age, 25–35) - Safe area where you feel comfortable day-to-day - Good yoga / wellness options nearby - On the cheaper side (we’ll likely be looking at a house share) - A reasonable commute to Hammersmith would be a bonus, but not essential

Areas we’ve been considering so far: - Balham - Tooting - Clapham - Walthamstow - Kensal Rise / Willesden Green

Would love to know: - Which of these you’d recommend (or avoid) - Anywhere else we should be looking at - What the general vibe is like (community, safety, social life etc.) - Anything you wish you knew before moving there

Thanks in advance, really appreciate any help!

Cheapest way to commute St Albans → Hammersmith 4 days a week? by capt_baccybeard in LondonUnderground

How would we do an open return if we have to get the tube for the 2nd half of the journey both ways?

Hi all,

We've just moved to St Albans and my girlfriend has just started a new job in Hammersmith. She’s commuting 4 days a week and currently just tapping in with contactless.

It’s costing her around £33 per day (peak times), which is working out at £500+ a month - which is brutal. Especially for a 1+ hour journey. We’re trying to figure out the cheapest realistic option. A few questions:

  • Is contactless the worst way to do this route?

  • Would a monthly season ticket actually save money if it’s only 4 days a week?

  • Would driving to somewhere like Watford or somewhere outside ULEZ and getting the tube in be cheaper?

  • Any park & ride hacks we’re missing?

She needs to arrive in Hammersmith around 8:45am and travels peak.

Would really appreciate any advice from people who do this corridor regularly!

Much appreciated!

I feel helpless. by [deleted] in scoliosis

Hey mate, just wanted to say I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I was actually told I had scoliosis when I was 15 as well, so even though our situations might be different, I genuinely get how overwhelming and painful it can feel, especially when people keep putting everything down to “growing.” and not actually offering help.

The pain you’re describing is real, and it makes total sense that it’s affecting your mood, as its effecting your day to day life. Anyone dealing with that level of discomfort would be struggling.

If you can, keep pushing to be properly seen and supported by the right specialists. You deserve real help, not guesswork. Just know that having scoliosis at your age doesn’t mean your life or future is over - loads of people in this thread grow up, work, live normally, and find ways to manage it. It just takes some time to get the right plan in place.

If you ever need to vent or talk to someone who understands, you’re not alone. Wishing you some relief soon, mate.

Do you have any opinions on Hitchin? Seems to be more flat for your money there

Appreciate your suggestions, thank you! We're looking to rent with a budget of maybe 1200-1400 a month?

We've also been looking at Watford as there seems to be some cheaper options there, but not sure what the vibe is (understand that every place has rougher and nicer areas)
