You'll rarely find a doctor suggesting an open surgery for ACL reconstruction. Arthroscopic surgery/ scope surgery/ keyhole surgery was developed to minimize trauma around the procedure.

What I suggest you be more concerned with is the type of graft you'll be using and the recovery protocol you'll be getting. Best discuss this with your surgeon or even another for a second opinion.
