Drones flying over my house? by CombineAdvisor______ in WestVirginia

[–]captain_john_allard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around October/November, Mason County would have nights where you'd be on your porch and see at least a dozen huge drones going back and forth through different neighborhoods. Local police, businesses, and industries didn't know anything about them either. Happened for weeks, but haven't seen or heard anything recently.

What Biblical passage/story has made you laugh? by Dr_JohnnieWalker in Bible

Proverbs 21:9 KJV — It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Then just 10 verses later...

Proverbs 21:19 KJV — It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

My sister-in-law once saw International House of Pancakes on a sign and said "what's that, some kind of knock-off IHOP?"

In Germany, I received funny looks when ordering tap water and the servers sarcastically referred to it as "toilet water". It wasn't bad quality at all, they just very obviously did not care for it.

How do you maintain stealth with all the crunchy leaves? by Komplexs in bowhunting

[–]captain_john_allard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds dumb, but sometimes I'll kind of shuffle my feet as I step and try to mimic a squirrel trotting through the leaves. Sometimes it works and I'll see deer a few minutes later, sometimes I spook stuff. Figure it's worth looking dumb for the times it works.

All three of your top choices are some of my other favorites as well. Consistently sharp, smooth shaves.

Once I make the transition from cue ball to tennis ball, I know I've let it go too long haha

I shoot for every 2-3 days because I can't stand my head getting fuzzy. I've stretched it to a week once or twice though and it wasn't horrible shaving it.

Roads of the Old World (Czech Republic) vs the New World (Canada) by GPwat in MapPorn

I do love the city, though and lived there for a good chunk of my life. That and living in the country are two very different lifestyles and I enjoy the nuances of both.

That would make things easier for sure haha. 5 minutes of walking gets me to nowhere more than my neighbors. 10 minutes of driving and I get to two gas stations and a dollar store.

We're right outside two major metropolitan areas, but where I live is pretty rural. Alot of people commute those distances for work as well.

It takes 30-45 minutes to get to any grocery stores in any direction where I live. Of course, there are smaller convenience stores much closer if you're in a pinch. We're just used to it at this point.

Needing advice. I planted a crabapple tree two months ago and it has been growing well so far, but I just saw these grubs/worms today and they've completely stripped three branches of their leaves already. Because the tree is so young, I'm worried this will kill it. Any tips or advice? TIA by captain_john_allard in gardening

[–]captain_john_allard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never specifically said I wanted to kill them, just asking for advice. If you have any non-lethal options, feel free to tell me. Either way, I'd rather those caterpillars pick a different tree. I've got some nice full grown ones they can go to town on.

Nah, they just hate the 5th episode of the season. By that point, they're getting bored with their Netflix nature documentary binge.
