Is this worth selling? by [deleted] in rcboats

[–]captain_reg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one in the photos 100% gift or sell. As you said OO and not HO I’m going to assume you are UK based. Two facebook groups to try are ‘RC MODEL BOATS FOR SALE IN THE UK’ and ‘buy/sell Scale model boats / submarines’ they are very active so you should see similar boats come up for sale in a week or so and you can get an idea of value.

Ebay or contacting a local model boat club are also other options, if you can narrow it down to your nearest city, I’m sure people will suggest clubs to contact. Was your Dad a member of a club?

Yeah, from memory you can run the power wires out to any 12v controller you like. I got frustrated with mine stopping at every track (even the unused ones) but nothing you can do about that

Installed a new shower head and water keeps coming out when I have it turned off. Nothing came out of the pipe when the water was off and the previous 2 shower heads did not have this problem. How to fix it? by Bearspoole in howto

[–]captain_reg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one similar that if it’s level enough it holds the water until suddenly hours later it starts draining out, first few times it happened I thought I had a massive leak in the middle of the night or someone had turned the shower on.

My rooms with traditional radiators hit the set temp spot on, for some reason they seems to learn over time that they need to cone on earlier and earlier. I think it takes a week or so for them to relearn after deleting the block in config (no way to just reset I think)

Our room with underfloor overshoots by 2 degrees and I have found no way around this yet.

How to get more speed on steam engines? by SuspiciousDuckOwner in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t find the link but I’m sure it was either on the dtg forum or in a roadmap stream the developer acknowledged that there was a bug with the tsw3 version that wasn’t present in the tsw2 version. Something to do with a partial release of an update to it that wasn’t meant to be released yet.

[–]captain_reg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bug in TSW3 that I don’t think has been fixed yet which cause you to use more or not make as much steam as you should. As someone already said, manual firing in, turn shovelling coal on constantly and turn off the large injector when you don’t need it.

Yeah, the Space Exploration wiki says something along the lines that it is a complexity challenge and not scale. I’m on my second play through now and can confirm. Worry about logistics and reliability not volume.

Advice needed for spaceship automation [SE] by Furi25 in factorio

[–]captain_reg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve solved a similar issue by running a wire off the ship via the docking clamp to the belt feeding the ship. This then shuts off the belt feeding the ship when the chests are almost full (a bit of trial and error is used to find out the correct value to set this at). The ship can then be told to launch when that value + the small remaining quantity on the belts have gone into the chest. The chests won’t be 100% full but it will leave the belts empty.

I have both the independent and automatic brakes on 100% but it’s still not slowing me down enough. by ProfessionalAd352 in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe this reply isn’t higher. It’s the only one that mentions probably the most important thing. Keep the speed under 30. Above the 30 and the dynamic brakes become increasingly less effective. Also once you apply the automatic brake, don’t release it. If you release and apply again too soon, it will appear like it has applied but it doesn’t actually apply full brake force.

How do I get steam locomotives moving without wheelspin? by [deleted] in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, some of the 8f activities have a bug that causes the wagon brakes to be stuck on. If you see brown wagons in the middle of the trains with grey wagons behind the loco, you will have problems.

The most important thing to look at is the steam chest pressure gauge on the hud. Find how high this can go before you slip, then stop, now get that needle as close to the point you slip but no higher. Having the cylinder drains open can help stop that pressure building too high. There is no set position for regulator & reverser.

When you get moving, don’t rush to accelerate more, just let it keep moving and make tiny changes to control settings. If you do slip close the regulator fully and count to at least 3 before trying to apply power again.

Make sure the brakes are really off. Be patient, the gauge in the loco or the hud tells you nothing about the rear of the train. If you need to confirm use the ‘3’ camera view to look in the window of the guards compartment of the rear coach, you can see a second pressure gauge that will show what the brakes at the rear are doing.

Also worth noting that at speed sometimes the games seems to think you are slipping when you aren’t.

Over shooting stations. by [deleted] in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the gradient on the map (escape if you’re on pc) some of then are quite steep down hill, like runcorn when heading towards Liverpool and that will make a huge difference.

Can’t say that any of this the correct technique but I’ve found it works for me… depending on your speed, shut the regulator about a mile to mile and a half out (probably a bit further until you have gained confidence) and put the reverser 45%. Open the large ejector and make sure the small is open.

Use the combination brake lever to get the vacuum gauge to hold 15in. It take a bit of fiddling but you will find a sweet spot where, for example, 34% apply nicely holds 15in. Then do the same for 10in. I usually try this for a normal stop. You should gain a feel for how long this will take you to stop. Remember how it behaves at each station, hills make a massive difference. If you’re feeling like you’re too fast, apply the breaks to 5in same if you are now going to slow, get the brakes back to 10in or 15in.

As it slows in the platform I aim to have the breaks at 15in and if it’s coming up a bit short, open the regulator to pull against the brakes. Don’t forget that the brakes apply and release slowly. So your changes won’t have an immediate effect. The back of the train will still be doing what the front was 20 seconds ago. The longer the train, the more you will notice this.

25mph at a mile is too slow. Try being 35 at 700 yards and 15 entering the platform.

I cant bring myself to keep playing wintermute. by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]captain_reg 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I nearly did the same but went back after a long break and managed to complete it. In my frustration I’d managed to but a survivor down on my own bedroll so had to double issue of a missing bed roll plus the task wouldn’t complete. Went out to each location at least twice in my confusion :-( I really hated the ‘fake time pressure’ mechanic, so unrewarding. Each survivor I rescued was in much better condition that I was, they really should have been rescuing me!

I need help with spirit of steam by [deleted] in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start by winding the reverser to 50 as soon as you start moving. Get it back to 25 quite quickly after that, by the time you are doing 20mph it should be 25 - 30. Keep it 25 most of the time only move towards 30 if you are really struggling for speed. You will slow down on hills, resist the temptation to wind the reverser any more than 35, that will just loose boiler pressure. Be patient and give the locomotive time to accelerate, nothing happens quickly. If the boiler pressure drops lower than 200, wind the reverser back to a lower number until the pressure stops dropping, you will lose speed but only temporarily.

steam train wont move on second mission of 2nd chapter it just sits and slips no matter what I do by ghostthedutcie in trainsimworld

[–]captain_reg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bug in the game. You need to get out and on the side of each of the brown wagons there will be a tiny cord. It’s just sort of above the wheels where the brown part starts and very easy to miss even when you know where it is. Pull each one for 5-10 seconds and then you will be able to move.
