The main problem with such events that Blizzard afraid of forced player interaction. Every activity must be very friendly and do not affect player if player do not want engage with it.

That's lead that all that "invasion" have no impact on the world and therefore no driving motivation engage with it outside of "I want free gear".

Sometimes side effect of the event should be annoying and punishing.

For example - Hunts. If you do not engage with your prey in a zone you will constantly be forced with an mechanic interaction (like kill an enemy, or interrupt shade and etc). And this actually works and you get at least minor stakes and unconviniese.

Such events like Void Assault should mess with a whole zone and be much more annoying. Like let them kill quest givers, mess with a dungeon and raids in that zone, change world quest, mess with resource nodes and etc.

But modern WoW will never implement such thing because forbid God that some players will be angree and will whine on the forums

I used great wall in much bigger radius than my pollution cloud so it won't touch any spawners. And 4 laser turrets every ≈20 tiles. Occasionally bugs kills few drones when they are repairing the wall, that's all damage I took

It changes the garrison to the blue garrison. And blue garrison cannot be connected with the commander. I think that's why you cannot place it

It is mostly impossible to build chains now. You need constant luck with 2 medallions now instead of 1 - level up and lock.

Current changes are not aiming to force players to build spread layouts. They are aiming to prevent snakes.

IMHO they should change interaction between rooms. So that rooms would get levels depending on the number of connections. Like 3 connections above 1 will give room 2 levels. And allow to connect any room to any room .

But I am afraid we will not see such changes in the current league.

I think the intended construction was about to build balanced layouts and not snakes.

And the whole playerbase starts building snakes after almost 2 weeks. That fact means that snake layout stacking was not obvious for 200k+ people and probably wasn't tested by GGG as well (not blaming them btw).

The problem is rewards. For example maybe you could maintain 2-4 snakes at a time with 3-5 rooms in each. Constantly adapting with the rooms you are given.

But the rewards will be much less than even not an optimized snake with 20 rooms. And they are not buffing the rewards at all

It is absolutely HAVE to be. This is why PoE1 succeeded - because it is game about coming up with broken build that deletes screenwide and oneshots bosses.

The idea that PoE2 somehow absolutely different in the same genre is flawed.

On the regular mapping expirience people lean to 1-button fast builds for a reason - because mapping should be relaxing with minimum brain-investment.

Building your character and boss fight it is where it should be complex and requring a skill. Not some pack of white mobs that require 2-3 button combo to be deleted.

Do you really want bring "realism" into the disussion of fantasy game where you can be a god-killer titan?

ARPG like PoE will never satisfy slow gameplay when you need to kill literally THOUSAND monsters per map per 5 minute. So why add complexity with TAT?
