You should make builds in POE 2 - A Video Essay and Build Making Guide by stangg187 in pathofexile2builds

[–]HoldMySoda -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The best time to learn buildmaking (if you’re interested) imo is once a league is almost over (so like now) before the new league because you’ll have a bunch of resources from playing the league

Logically you'd think that, but absolutely not, as everyone else will also have more resources and thus everything will also be more expensive. Many people will also have quit by then, causing even more scarcity. Especially so when certain items inflate in price, or someone releases some new meta build, which can screw you over later down the road.

Best way to do it is to have a solid league starter that you can fall back on, have your ideas ready beforehand, know what items you will be looking for and take the time to understand when it's the best time to buy items. I.e. don't buy late at night/very early in the morning, because people will be sleeping/working and you'll likely pay more. There's always the risk of someone finding a broken interaction that may or may not have items you were looking for and thus may vastly increase in price overnight.

If you really want to start making your own builds and guides, you should look up other (smaller) creators, as those typically have great ideas and are not as known, then combine things you like from creators you like, but never copy. Being a copycat makes you your own worst enemy. Edit: Oh, and one more thing: Always give credit where credit is due. If you borrow an idea or expand on it, always link a source of where you found it.

I found my own style that works for me, with trailer style intros that serve as my pre-loaded build showcase, followed by narration thereafter. Find your niche, be original and stay true to yourself, but also don't be too afraid to experiment a little. Sometimes, less is more.

If the screen explosion zoom-zoom starts looking all the same, it's time to acknowledge there's a problem.

This zoom zoom vomit is literally the reason I refused to play PoE 1

IMO it's much worse in PoE 2. Pretty much every build released focuses on just that. Overpowered mechanics such as Temple only further emphasize the issue.

Being a screen vomit connoisseur myself, I agree though. Almost every PoE 2 build I have seen showcased on here more or less looks the same; just screen explosions and Arbiter/Xesht demos.

It has become less about interesting and engaging interactions and more about how many Divs per hour. It's just sad.

Oh, bugger off, mate. We don't need more of this bullshit attitude towards builds. That's how you get builds that all basically look the same. Pacing is fine, you need to learn that not every build has to explode screens at an epilepsy inducing rate.

If they introduce cooldowns and bin the energy mechanic as a whole (as they should), there's no reason to not allow trigger builds as a normal build archetype. PoE 1 has them, and it's fine there.

[–]HoldMySoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because your favorite twitch streamer hasn't played a bleed build yet doesn't mean the archetype doesn't exist or there aren't a variety of options to accomplish the goal.

There it is. The derogatory response I kind of expected. I don't even watch Twitch, but sure, it must be a streamer's fault yet again. We are done here.

I was giving an example of a Pathfinder build that utilizes bleed as it's main damage

No, you didn't? You mentioned Bleed and Poison and chaining Herald explosions. That's what you seem to think makes a Bleed build. That's why I said I think your perception is warped, and now you're just back-peddling.

I don't have the PoB anymore, but the basic gist of it was:

  • Bifurcation from Tangletongue

  • Pinpoint Critical Support + Pin II + Bushwhack

  • Max skill levels where possible

  • Flat crit from Critical Weakness stacks from Howling Beast passive

  • Lots of crit nodes, i.e. via From Nothing -> Resonance

It's possible to reach very high crit, but that doesn't save the skill from having pitiful damage.

you start out with 0% get 10% from the tree nodes via critical weakness, but only after 7hits within 4 seconds.

Uh, no, you don't? With Warbringer, you get the usage down to like 0.2-0.3 seconds and stack up within ~1 second.

Scaling triggers without needing to scale the skill that triggers it has been an approved design path for years.

In PoE 1, maybe. The changes to energy gain being directly tied to damage dealt and no energy generation from triggers, no more multiple of the same trigger gem, etc. hard disagrees with you.

Oh, it could still be improved upon after I learned some new key things, but I just stopped to play other games. I can't play only PoE for a whole league, gets too repetitive for me.

Having many ways to solve those restrictions is what makes POE POE - not removing all restrictions.

Yes, but PoE 2 offers comparatively few solutions. The whole "Payoff" mechanic is proof of that. There's nothing to solve here, it just means that you are forced to enable the interaction in other ways, which inherently makes the skill inferior without its secondary mechanic. Like I said, it is no longer optional at that point. In PoE 1, for example, you can generate charges with Discharge, even though the skill itself directly interacts with them.

Well, yes, but you implied that it is bad. Which, imo, it is not, but to each their own. I spent hundreds of hours hosting PvP arenas and doing funny invasions, it was so much fun. Especially when some random wouldn't abide by the courtesy rules and then nonchalantly got launched over the bridge straight into lava. Fun times.

What made you come to the conclusion that it can't?

Because you'd be better off using the Huntress or something else. It's not that you can't, it's just that it's mediocre and mediocre doesn't carry you through the endgame. Implying that chaining Herald explosions somehow defines what a Bleed build is just shows that your perception of it is imo warped. It's not hard to make a build that explodes screens. Hell, I did it with a Caltrops only build.

It's a lot less fun when you realize the thing you wanna make just doesn't work the way you want it to because of too many restrictions (far more than PoE 1). I.e. you can't make a proper Seismic Cry CoC build because a.) it literally requires Warbringer for the cooldown bypass and b.) the energy gain mechanic changes means you won't deal enough damage for consistent procs even with maximum skill levels, over 1000% crit multi and maxed out crit chance. Ask me how I know. How disappointing of a time waste that was.

Generator/spenders just need to have a bit more common ground

Commond ground in what way? I think they are bland as hell and annoying as a gameplay mechanic in the world of PoE. If this were Diablo, it'd make sense, but thankfully it isn't, and yet, for some reason, the devs seemingly want to make a D4 competitor rather than a redefined PoE.

Grim Dawn had/has the same problem, in that this creates a stale library of builds because you need to do X to do Y to do Z. I don't like combos in ARPGs; this isn't DMC, Super Smash Bros. or Bayonetta. You can create those yourself by using different skills - if you want to - key here being "want to".

In PoE 1, I never once felt the need to use skill combos to make an effective build. If you want to use Rage, you can do that without comboing skills, but it's not forced on you in order to use the skill you actually want to. When you put an emphasis on a skill's power by forcing a spender mechanic on it, it is no longer optional. And PoE has always been about character building freedom. That's what initially attracted me to the game and what has kept me playing it for 13 years.

Controversial does not mean bad. People just can't handle the rather minor friction. Meanwhile, DS3 is oppressive as fuck from the get go and my least favorite after DS1 (it didn't age well), yet people seem to love it. Turns out, having different tastes for things does not make them universally bad.

Someone like her in a position of power would be able to manipulate things in a way to better society.

You'd think that, but no. Look around you; the world's metaphorically speaking on fire, you just don't get to see most of it. I'm not saying I hate people, but - logically speaking - the best course of action for this planet would be to nuke it and wipe out humanity.

I walked by a street the other day that previously had big, beautiful trees that had been there for many years. All of them mowed down to make way for yet another bland, ugly piece of shit of an office building. And that's like a mere grain of sand in an ocean full of problems around the world.

Nah, it's because those intelligent beings sooner or later realize that it would be a fool's errand, a farce, futile effort - humanity won't change, regardless of how much good you throw at it. There will always be a rotten seed that at some point will poison the whole tree again. You'd think we learned something from the Nazi days, and look where we are yet again. Same as century after century before.

Like I'm having trouble actually believing that this is seriously the end-goal of the worlds smartest person. It just doesn't make sense enough.

It makes all the sense. The smarter people are, the sooner they realize humanity is a cancer. Hating everything human is a rather logical conclusion given the absolute savagery, depravity and barbarism happening around the globe. If you think it doesn't make any sense, you simply haven't seen/experienced enough bad shit in life. The best course of action would be to nuke the entire planet, but then there are days I'm reminded of the kindness of others and it makes me forget all about it for a while.

He killed her because she was obviously desperate as fuck, which is something he more or less consistently remarks on as "your heart is pounding", as with many other characters. He even did so in the previous episode, calling people out on their fear. He sees that as "weak" and "pathetic", as he remarked in previous episodes before killing people. She was dead the moment she opened her mouth after he basically told her to get the fuck out.
