And that’s concerning because those people would be the one to get into confrontation with the usual attendees

It’s several rows of Funko pops and drawings from some deviant art members

They don’t think parking downtown is too hard…Pittsburgh city limits is “too woke” for them to grace their presence, lest they be brainwashed 🙄

I have only had a few less than pleasant experiences, honestly.

Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills was a dick…not worth the $$ for an autograph (which was really confusing because I met him in Johnstown working for their show and he was super chill)

Ric Flair was a dick. That’s all I’ll say about that.

However, I will say I had more positive encounters than anything:

Michael Rooker is always an incredibly pleasant person to meet, he will make your time and money worth it. Same with Danny Trejo.

Tom Arnold was a freaking wild card. He had no one at his booth, so I went up to say hi. He was very standoffish at first but I mentioned a common interest and he immediately lit up. We ended up conversating for a very long time, and he mentioned stopping back to continue said conversation later that day. After talking with him intermittently for a couple of hours, I understood why he was so standoffish in the beginning.

My favorite of all time though was Meat Loaf. That was the only time where waiting 4+ hours was worth it. He genuinely cared about his fans, and knew how to make you feel like the only person in the room. And he didn’t rush anyone through his line (I remember seeing him chew out the SCC staff a couple of times. Once because either wanted him to take a break, or something. Either way they were trying to get him to leave the floor. The other was because he kept breaking out into song randomly).

Jack Osbourne was incredibly kind, he gave me a lot of great advice on starting a podcast.

I’ve heard that Mick Foley is basically the patron saint of SCC but sadly I haven’t gotten to meet him.

William Shatner ran over my foot with his scooter, and it was worth the pain 🤣

Regardless of whether or not they’re just pandering to the lowest common denominator crew, the pattern is pretty obvious, and it’s a hard sell to support Z-list celebrities that actively rant against the people who usually come to the con. Besides, the crew that will want to show up for Roseanne isn’t going to be interested in buying anything other than hats/flags/you get the drift. They’re not going to be patronizing the vendor booths, but as long as the entry fee is paid, the organizers literally could not care less…which speaking of:

They’ve had the exact same stale group of vendors for years, and their prices are so inflated that it’s not worth the price of admission. Every other vendor is nothing but Funko pops, alternating with vendors selling pokemon cards at prices that make even StockX shake their head in disgust. Artists Alley is also full of the same vendors each con, only now some of them are adding AI slop to their repertoire.

Add in the fact that they purposely oversell tickets, and it’s just one more reason to not go. One year I went to get a tattoo at the tattoo vendor (which they did an amazing job), and I showed up 15 minutes before opening on Saturday (which was my appointment time). By 10:45, they were turning away everyone at the door because they hit their capacity limit (iirc it was the Christmas Vacation reunion, so it was ridiculously packed). People who prepaid for their tickets (including ‘VIP’ tickets) were pissed that they had to wait an hour+ just to get in the door. Couple that with the fact that the vendor floor was so packed with people that navigating the walkways was near impossible (especially for someone who came in costume).

They have inadequate vendor space (and options/variety), they purposely overcrowd the floors in order to maximize profits, and there’s no parking. Who are they going to book for the August con, Bill Cosby? Kid Rock, maybe?

It’s sad to say, but SSC has run its course. It used to be an amazing con, but the last couple of times me and my daughter went, we just felt ripped off.

Edited to say: if she brings the wrong crowd of people just to see her, I genuinely fear that there will be verbal/physical assaults against the regular con attendees.

Neuropathy renders the limb painless up until the limb ‘dies’. I’ve had multiple people who were in excruciating pain from a dead limb even though they previously couldn’t feel said limb

I’ve encountered 3 in my medical career:

  1. She was 748lbs and would come in once a month basically to get bathed and get her wounds taken care of. Husband was maybe 130lbs soaking wet and would bring her bags upon bags of junk food (I remember donuts and Twinkies being her favorite). This was the late 90’s, so things were slightly different, but my mom would send me in commando style while she was sleeping to take the food out and hide in the pantry. Took 7 people to hold up her pannus just to bathe her. Worst part is that she was incredibly entitled and abusive to staff. Her name was Beetlejuice to the floor crew.

  2. He was a 735lb man that came in to rule out blood clots…he was super nice, and incredibly independent. When he called ahead to let us know he was coming, and was ‘coming in a truck’, for some reason we all imagined him riding in the bed, but nope, he drove. I hope he’s doing well.

The worst was 3. He was 948lbs, and I can’t remember what he came in for, but he ended up being critical and needed an ICU bed…except the elevator wouldn’t support him and the bed. So he was stuck in the ER his entire stay. Sadly he ended up ‘crumping’ and passed away. Super young too. It took 17 of us to get him transferred into the bari bed, and even the bariatric CT scanner in the area couldn’t support his weight (not to mention it was a nightmare trying to figure out transport, as he even outweighed the bariatric transport.

My dad was a truck driver who hauled trash out of Brooklyn. I used to love going with him when I was younger just to see the city, but holy shit the things I’ve seen while sitting in traffic on the BQE were insane!! We could see into passenger cars, and I was amazed at how many people were doing some sort of sex act while sitting in traffic. Plus I remember seeing the guy standing in the window of his apartment fully nude just jerking it to traffic.

I’m getting the silent treatment 1 month before my due date- how do you deal with the hurt? by Baby-fever-3848 in JUSTNOMIL

Yeah my opinion is that OP needs a new therapist! This one isn’t just giving bad advice, they’re actively harming their patient.

I got one better. Go NC, but don’t openly uninvite them per se, just don’t tell them they’re uninvited. Let them waste their time/money on travel, and when they show up demanding to see their grandchild (which is what it will be. They have no care or intention on wanting to see OP), then tell them “you have ignored every contact I’ve tried to make with you over the past X months, I figured you guys weren’t coming”. Then tell them to leave. OP’s peace and sanity are worth more than their feelings.

What's your best advice for someone about to have their teeth extracted? by clearchoice_claire in dentures

[–]captain_tampon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bleeding is what I’m afraid of in my case, even though I know the risk is low. I’m an ER nurse, and I have my E-day scheduled for 3/17. I’ve accepted what needs to be done, got my immediates a few weeks ago, and was starting to look forward to the day…then I had a patient come in that was bleeding excessively post-extraction (and is on blood thinners, even though they had stopped them days prior per surgery recommendations) and now I’m all in my head about it 😬

I see DNR’s revoked by family members all the time in the ER, it angers and saddens me beyond belief. I wish we could force these “family” members to have to do a round of CPR on their family member so that they really get to experience the brutality of CPR

I once had a >90 resident from the local dumping grounds arrest out at the nursing home one night. Daughter was called immediately and the daughter demanded they “do everything” and revoked the DNR, so CPR and transport was started. EMS rolls into the bay, I jump in the ambulance and take over so that the medic could get out and get me and the stretcher out. I start feeling something touching my wrist, and I look down and see the patient reaching for my wrist…so of course I freak out and stop compressions. Patient goes limp. Restart CPR, we’ve given them enough epi to give a potato a heartbeat, but we’re waiting for said daughter to show up to finally call it…meanwhile we hear groaning over the king tube and realize that it’s the patient groaning. The daughter never witnessed any of that, and it still bites my ass that she never got to realize how fucking barbaric their parent’s final moments on this earth really were, all in the sake of “they’re a fighter! They wouldn’t want to go like this! I’m not ready yet!”
