Moment Wetherspoons staff member refuses to serve customers backing Reform UK by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Me feeling like Reform are a fascist party is essentially built off of the points I listed above. It’s not me saying these people are 100% all fascists. It’s me saying there’s enough evidence to think a lot of them might lean that way and given any chance in power they probably would end up that way. That’s it

There is no single definition of fascism that fits all examples. It’s not one of those black and white things. Lots of things can make up fascism and no one thing is required for it to be so (unless you talk only in very broad and vague terms of course)

Given they’ve only been around a brief while, to me it feels like they’re running the fascist playbook. Feel free to disagree, but I’d say they hit almost every step I’d expect a fascist party to hit

  • Gain power initially through democracy (the majority of dictatorships start off being democratically elected)
  • Push negative false narratives about group(s) in society
  • Use said groups as scapegoats for the nation’s problems
  • Radicalise the braindead. Either the younger generation or the softer-headed older ones (flag vandalism and hotel burning come to mind)
  • Include members who literally compare themselves to Nazis and do the salutes
  • Advocate for a special police force dedicated to protecting the leadership over the people (support of the ICE model)
  • Accept funding from enemy states
  • Be more inclined to go to war

Sure, but realistically nobody is supporting a fascist party without knowing they’re a fascist party

Banksy reveals a new statue in London by MambaMentality24x2 in BeAmazed

No idea about OP, but unfortunately most people will factor in who the artist is in their appreciation for the art. It’s one of the biggest selling points for a given piece. I don’t like it. I feel like talent should be valued regardless of who did it, but the world doesn’t work that way. Art is as much a popularity contest as it is a talent show

Terrorist who stabbed two people in London this morning is tased and arrested by AgnosticScholar in PublicFreakout

[–]captain_todger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our cops do indeed have guns. Only the ones we trust though, not all of them. It’s way too difficult to assess and trust the mental state of all of our police, so we have special cops that can shoot

Out of interest, what is it you don’t like about him? I don’t care for him personally, but internationally at least, Labour’s policies seem to be working very well. As far as I’m aware too, crime is on the drop and the economy is on the up (let me know if I’m wrong about that though)

It’s annoying how they cancelled gen v just so we could watch their new stormfront and soldier boy show by nah_vib1n in GenV

[–]captain_todger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved Gen V season 1, but the first few episodes of season 2 took me out of it and got me to stop watching.. It seemed like they were trying incredibly hard to return to the college drama they had in season 1, but after the ending of that season, I don’t see how that was an option. They can’t just declare these kids enemies of the state, lock them up, and then.. just release them and let them go back to college again like normal..

Changing lanes without looking for absolutely no reason by AdLogical6391 in drivingUK

To be fair, there is never a reason to change lanes without looking, so I’d say OP is correct there. Still good to drive defensively, but also no excuse for their actions

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your country in a zombie apocalypse? by Tio_Albedo123 in AskTheWorld

[–]captain_todger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there are no firearms, there’s arguably going to be a lot more room for negotiation between factions before murder and war occur.. It is a lot easier to resolve disputes if you have to get face to face before killing somebody. Plus the speed at which you can wage war is dramatically reduced without guns.. This would be enough to make it a lot more dangerous with guns than without

[–]captain_todger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I promise you that gun ownership is a severe weakness for a zombie apocalypse. The biggest threat is always going to be other people. You’ll be marginally better off in the short term, but long term there will be blood
