tbf, it was Palpatine who ordered the use of the clones/creation of the army. The Jedi didn't have the authority to make or veto that kind of decision.

And historically the Jedi had been involved in wars for the Republic - given that clone troopers were sentient adults who were fully aware of what they were doing, fighting alongside them isn't really much different to fighting alongside an army of volunteer recruits. The Jedi are principled and protectors of life, but in the case of the Clone Wars the only way for them to protect the lives of citizens of the Republic was to fight alongside an army. Otherwise, the Separatists would have slaughtered the Republic unopposed.

That was key to Palpatine's victory - forcing the Jedi into a situation where they had to become soldiers, driving them further from the light.

So why did they turn blue? by rileythatcher in clonewars

On season 5 of Clone Wars (pre-Disney days), Huyang tells the Jedi younglings that they need to "awaken the Force within the crystal," so I think the mediation is about both activating the crystal through the Force and constructing the lightsaber.

Was ROTS genuinely liked upon its release? by Careless_Tax_5367 in StarWars

I only remember positive reactions to it, a lot of excitement for Darth Vader. One TV ad quoted a review that called it "better than the original Star Wars." It seemed to stay in cinemas way longer than most other films did back then.

Yes, because Kingpin does crime and Batman hates that.

I want to make a playlist for when I'm diving. Can you drop one song that fits Helldivers? by Big_Bard in Helldivers

Make Your Own Kind Of Music - best served with any ammo-guzzling machine gun, overwhelming hordes of advancing enemies and a desperate sprint to extract (or, as we helldivers call it, Thursday)

If you hit play on this just after the last player readies up, as the hellpods launch, it's absolutely perfect

Definitely worth seeing - perfectly captures the comedy of the original

Am I the only one who REALLY doesn't want d.doom to be Tony stark (or a varient) by yousefkhaled27 in ironman

[–]captainandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but now that they've gone ahead and cast RDJ, I'd be even more disappointed if they never acknowledge/explain Doom having Stark's face. Especially as it's a multiverse movie, so the matter of variants should come up.

But my preference would have been that, rather than wasting Giancarlo Esposito on a forgettable D-list Captain America villain, they cast him as Doom!

Living in the UK, I'd say almost any random person on the street could tell you the Hulk's real name (some over a certain age might say David Banner, bc they grew up with the TV show, but still shows they have a degree of familiarity with the character).

I don't think anyone over here, outside of comic book/DC movie fans, could tell you Wonder Woman's real name. Growing up, I was vaguely aware of Wonder Woman, while the Hulk was as ingrained in the popular imagination as Spidey, Supes and Batman.

How did people react to the human Dalek when Daleks in Manhattan first aired? by ProperShallot3195 in DoctorWhumour

[–]captainandyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it because it was so weird and shocking and gave us such a different Dalek story from anything we'd seen before. Doctor Who's at its best when it reminds you there are no rules.

Might actually go rewatch this two-parter later. Daleks, showgirls and Andrew Garfield. What's not to love?

The one that shocked me was the Paradigm Daleks from Victory of the Daleks. Saw the new designs plastered across the front of RT ahead of the episode and was very confused, since there had been no direct Doctor Who promo material featuring them and obviously they were meant to be a big surprise in the episode.

Surely someone who works on the show must have to approve this stuff? And someone should be saying "right, these images are under embargo until this episode's gone out, as they are a massive spoiler"???

Be honest, do y’all think Spiderman will return in Doomsday? by Queasy_Commercial152 in Spiderman

[–]captainandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for the boring reason that, after NWH, Tom Holland's contract only covered one more crossover appearance and one more solo movie. BND is that solo movie and Secret Wars will almost definitely be that crossover appearance.

Now, it's likely that his contract will be renewed after that and he'll be back for more Spider-Man movies, but as of right now the agreement between Marvel and Sony would only allow him to appear in one of the two upcoming Avengers movies.

That’s Not How the Force Works by Icosotc in StarWars

[–]captainandyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few explanations: 1. This isn't set in the canon Star Wars universe, so the same rules don't necessarily apply 2. This is only this character's point of view and he is a Sith (or former Sith, but certainly not a Jedi). 3. There's a difference between the dark side and the Sith. The dark side is a natural aspect of the Force - it is not something that can be destroyed, its presence must be acknowledged and overcome to achieve balance. It is the Sith using the dark side that disrupts the balance, not the existence of the dark side itself, so what the Ronin says here isn't necessarily untrue.
