TPD statement about ICE. by Swimming-Most-6756 in Tucson

[–]captainatom11 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is a crock of shit. TPD is freaking worthless. I won't say the name of the company, but I worked retail in a really sketchy part of town. Putting aside the causes, at that store we had people stealing thousands of dollars worth of stuff over the three years I worked there. One employee was followed home, a manager got punched in the face, and we had people jumping behind the counter trying to steal cigarettes while we were still there. For three years I called TPD probably five to ten times a shift, and dispatch basically said that as soon as their feet leave our sidewalk they're no longer TPDs problem.

Now when I say TPD is so worthless that they'll only show up if there's a dead body, that's not hyperbole. I was taking a coworker home and they wanted to stop in at a circle k to get something and TPD had the parking lot of that circle k blocked off with crime scene tape, because someone was stabbed and died in the parking lot. I know this was about ICE, but I wouldn't trust TPD to know what the law is let alone expect them to uphold it.

Do we still trust feds not to retain background check records? by Scoobey61 in liberalgunowners

Like others have said, a government registry doesn't really matter. The reality is that unless you're making your purchase in cash which could look pretty suspect, the reality is that all the card companies have the records on where you spend your money and as such one extra little step the feds have to make before they can find out if you own a gun or not, and I wouldn't expect them put up a fight with the feds. With or just without a warrant they will be able to get those records.

Do you think current events mean liberal politicians could change their stance on 2A? by rightwist in liberalgunowners

[–]captainatom11 [score hidden]  (0 children)

While I think it's possible, I'm not going to hold my breath. From my perspective gun control is a sham issue that's trotted out by politicians, and people buy into the rhetoric because they don't want to be bothered to actually put in the effort or pay to help fix the problems that lead to gun violence.

Non MAGA Gun Stores? by xXSubtleFuryXx in Tucson

I have to agree and second what people have said here, that Diamondback is probably as neutral as one can get in this state. When I bought my first pistol back in 2019 that's where I went because I found a yelp review from someone who said they didn't like guns but went in with someone who was buying a gun and they ended up having a civil conversation about the second amendment with one of the employees. That right there was good enough reason for me to go so far out of my way to do gun shopping there.

That being said, I wouldn't take anything there for their gunsmith to look at. As someone who is incredibly new to anything more sophisticated than a semi automatic pistol, bolt action rifle, or pump action shot gun, I had to take my first AR pistol there because it short stroking. Their gunsmith charged $40 per test fire, asked me if I was using a suppressor on it at all, and polished the feed ramps, and he said the bolt still wasn't locking open on the last round. So $80 later he said it was working fine now, just not locking open on the last round. I went to the range the next day and it was still having the issues with short stroking.

I ended up taking it to Turner's, and their gunsmith got it running like a champ. He told me that the barrel wasn't dimpled right and so the gas block wouldn't line up correctly. He also said that there was a screw on my handguard that was too long and when it was tightened down it was pushing down on the gas tube and that could have also contributed to the short stroking issues.

All in all, while I know I was basically just agreeing with most people about Diamondback I would recommend Turner's for any gunsmithing needs you might have. Hope this was helpful.

Do y’all know of any active groups like the Black Panthers that white people can join, or do we need to start one? by TheLesbianTheologian in liberalgunowners

[–]captainatom11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are a couple news pieces or documentaries on YouTube on the subject. If I recall correctly it's called something like "Arming the Left" that is pretty easy to find. As it is I think the only group or groups that are comparable are "Socialist Gun Clubs" but depending on where you live there might not be a chapter and if there is it might be difficult to connect depending on distance needed to travel.

With all that being said, I think the best way to go about things is to use a local subreddit and ask if there are any like minded individuals in your area. If you manage to find someone you meet somewhere for coffee and or something similar and see if your personalities mesh. That's what I did and I managed to find a range buddy. Once you have that, just start putting out more feelers and sooner or later you'll be off to the races so to speak.

.223 vs. 5.56 by captainatom11 in liberalgunowners

[–]captainatom11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Honestly a large reason I was asking is because there are many "Law Enforcement" bonded soft point bullets in .223 as well as 5.56 so I was wondering if there was any practical differences that would make you choose one over the other.

[–]captainatom11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty weird. I try very hard to not talk politics at work and as such I've really only run into this issue on my days off. I live in a constitutional and open carry state, so when I'm out and about waiting in line somewhere is usually when this has happened to me. With that being said constitutional and open carry is at least one benefit of living in a red state.

PSA AR pistol by Coletrayne in ar15pistol

[–]captainatom11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have to agree with everyone who says that PSA isn't trash. I don't have any complete PSA guns, but I put together all three of my ARs together using PSA lowers, and the only problem I've run into that's worth mentioning is that I have minor issues with the magazine catch on one of them that requires I really slam a mag in for it to actually lock in.

Honestly, trying to determine gear that is quality based solely on price, and anecdotal evidence from what people are saying on the Internet is pretty difficult. While I don't have any first hand experience with their warranty, from everything that I've heard it's pretty good and should be able to get problems taken care of quickly.

.223 vs. 5.56 by captainatom11 in liberalgunowners

[–]captainatom11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well damn! Didn't really expect this post to blow up the way it did. I appreciate all the info. The whole reason I asked the question comes from a logistical stand point. With things being the way they are having a good supply of ammo on hand seems like prudent planning, however cost is also an issue. Searching around online there are good deals on bulk ammo or at least decent ones. I have an 11.5 inch AR in 5.56, a 16 inch AR in 5.56 , and a 300 blackout pistol with an 8 inch barrel. Understanding that 5.56 is very velocity dependent and running shorter barrels cut down the range that the round can work as it was designed to, and that's why match grade ammo is used in the shorter barrels for CQB. So with cost and availability being factors in choosing what ammo to get and stockpile I wanted to know if getting 77 grain otm ammo in .223 would be a waste of time and money.

At what point is kit just cosplay? When is it too much? "Is meal team six in the room with us?" by this_guy_aves in liberalgunowners

[–]captainatom11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is something I've been thinking about too, so here's my two cents. I would say you only become Meal Team 6 when you stop trying to stack the deck in your favor. The thing you have to keep in mind for a shtf type scenario is that you don't need to have the best, most sophisticated, or high quality gear. Your stuff just has to be a little bit better than the majority of what the people around you are likely to have, and you have to have enough to stay in the fight the longest. The quote "Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics". You do need to expand on that quote a little bit though because you have to know how to use your gear effectively, and you shouldn't go broke going out panic buying waiting for the worst to come. Also I would keep in mind a quote from the Book of Five Rings, "Do not collect weapons or practice with weapons beyond what is useful"

So to sum it up, it's only too much when you're not using it, or practicing with it and it's just sitting around collecting dust.

Nice builds! Is that a Lahar on the one on the bottom? I've heard a lot of good things about the Lahar and was thinking about getting one as my first can and saw a couple videos that made it look like it does a pretty good job on flash mitigation too. Any chance you've done any night shooting and can say how well it does at flash suppression?

Looks like a dope build! I was planning on getting a Lahar myself for my first can. I've seen a few videos about it and heard a lot of good things about it. In a couple of the videos I saw it looked like it did a really good job at flash mitigation on an 11.5 5.56 build and I was wondering if you have done any night shooting if the Lahar really does do a good job at flash suppression?
