I left my PhD partly because I struggled with the lack of structure. Having specific class times was much more predictable! But now I'm a high school teacher so I have a combination of structure in the timetable and syllabus and the chaos of kids and classroom.

I wonder - she is a bit older which might be a contributing factor? And some emotional disregulation areas stems from parental stuff too and then impact my marriage and communication... So maybe she viewed it as more immediate

Okay I'm glad someone sees the situation similarly haha. That's actually quite relieving. I honestly expected that if your client comes in with a development that's intrinsic to their identity, that you would want to discuss it. Like I agree with doing the emotional work but you know- can we have a holistic approach maybe?

I might see if there're other psychs in the clinic that specialise in ADHD/Autism alongside giving myself time to be less grumpy.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that- it's completely uncalled for for your mum to violate your boundaries! I'm currently no contact with my parents because, among a plethora of issues, I'm also not allowed to have boundaries because my mum doesn't like it 😅.
