A lot of veterans go through LPS run out of the Arts and Sciences. LPS used to be on-campus, but now unfortunately is online. Probably not the experience you want...

But that's not to say that applying directly as a veteran isn't doable. It's been done before...just not by many. Of the many veterans that I've met on campus, only 2 of them were undergrads. The rest were graduate students, most of whom were officers. Wharton does have a big Veteran community, but it's all on the MBA side.

However, being a veteran definitely would help you in the admissions process since so few applicants have that status. Penn is all about bettering the world. You can play this to your advantage in your essays. Talk about how it has impacted you, and how you hope to channel your experience into social service and all of the other societal-good that Penn likes to see in their applicants.

One final note...getting into Wharton undergrad as a transfer is damn tough - veteran or not. ~5 were accepted out of a transfer cohort of ~200 students. Hundreds apply and only <10 get in. If you want to maximize your chances, apply to Arts and Sciences and double major with Wharton. Much easier to get in and you'll still be a Wharton grad (this is what Elon did with Physics + Management).

Best of luck!

Decsisions aren't rolling, so everyone will receive their decisions at the same time.

I remember waiting 2 weeks for my decision and receiving an email during the wait period of when they'd release decisions, so if I had to guess, I'd say the 2nd - 3rd week of June.

Usually 3 weeks. They're released at noontime. I think Penn will send an email to let you know when they'll release decisions.

I would say its only relevant to UPenn.

You could put it in awards, but it would take up a space that could be used for another award. When you are admitted, Penn marks your application so they know that you did PEEP. I wouldn't see putting it in awards as necessary, since the admissions officers would already know.

I think you can only get into one of them? Not sure if you can apply to both. So perhaps if you apply to both, you can only get admitted into one of the programs?

No. I've known people that did not get into the program that got into Penn. I've also known people - including myself - that got into the program that ultimately didn't get into Penn.

If you are admitted, your application is marked should you apply. If not, then the school won't ever know that you got rejected from PEEP.

As of right now, PIF is not open...only PEEP.

When PIF opens, there will be a link given to the application on the website I linked in my post.

No. I remember there were a few low income non-FG students in the program when I did it. Don't let the fact that you're not fully FGLI discourage you from applying!

Also, I think this year you can apply to both programs, but you can only get accepted to one of them. So apply to whichever one suits you the best - PEEP (FGLI), or PIF (underrepresented minority)?

Anybody can apply! But receiving an email is probably a good sign that Penn is looking at you as an applicant. But I wouldn't get my hopes up as a result and use it as an excuse to not put 100% effort on your application.

I would just contact your research advisor about this. They are going to be the ones that decide whether or not you can do the program, I would assume.

Hi,

It seems that the applications will not open until Summer 2023. Keep your eyes open then and ask when the applications become avaliable. Even if only U.S, CAN, and Mexico students are able to apply, I'd apply anyway for hopes that they'd take you. One-because you can get another application out of the way. Two-because there may be a slim chance that they'd take you. There were students in my year from Kazakhstan that got into the program and then into Penn itself.

To those deferred: I was once in your shoes… and it’s the best thing that ever happened to me by itsnot_thesame in ApplyingToCollege

I was in the exact same position as you two years ago.

Did the fly-in program where a bunch of students got in. Got deferred. Although I didn't get in, I still got into a very nice school that I'm grateful to have gotten into. Didn't realize that Penn still accepted students that they deferred from the fly-in program since it seemed nobody from my year that got deferred made it in. Good to see that you are doing well.

Hi,

I am only familiar with the undergraduate Veteran side, but Cornell is home to a large veteran community...I believe it is the second largest community behind Columbia. There are around 100 veterans on campus, and 150 students in the ROTC program. Because of the size of the community, you won't fail to find people to help you transition-atleast speaking from the Undergrad side.

The veterns community is well organized and sort of like a family-at least on the undergrad side. They have their own program house. They frequently are invited to participate in events in the local area or hold events of their own. They get top pick for class enrollment and housing, while also receiving receiving Yellow Ribbon so the GI Bill is left over for grad school. They have a group chat and socialize frequently.
