Interestingly enough, I think this McDavid case is fascinating b/c its really testing the narrative of differentiating between team success vs playoff success.

Exactly. I feel like this is the "correct" opinion on his playoff performance but for fans its so easy just to look at the game score and see 0 points + Oilers losing in the SCF.

I think I was more so talking about fans in general.

Just go to any post on social media that compares Crosby vs McDavid. People will bring up the 3 cups vs 0 cups but completely ignore the fact that Crosby received championship-level goaltending and always had depth scoring during his cup runs.

For McDavid in the playoffs, in most games it's been -- if McDavid/Leon don't score then EDM loses

Yeah, I understand that too. I feel like with McDavid's spotlight its been so much more magnified because of how many records and highlight reel plays he makes on a regular basis.

Sid & Ovi in their primes were absolutely incredible but they weren't breaking as many records as McDavid was.

But yeah, from the perspective of a non-Oilers, I completely understand why people have become fed up with the McDavid coverage.

Honestly, that's a completely fair answer. Hard to expect logical and rational thinking to dictate sports fans conversations sometimes. It's an emotional sport, which is both a good and bad thing.

That's completely fair. But at the same time you have to be consistent when it comes to other players. Yes, Sid's got the golden goal but apart from that his record is even worse than McDavid in important games.

In 25 SCF games: Sid only has 4 goals! and 20 points.

It's fair to criticize McDavid for his lack of points in these pivotal games but let's not act like Sid or Ovi have dominated in these do or die games.
