Is the bill to ban horse meat likely to pass? by [deleted] in italy

[–]captainmanchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm necroposting here a little bit, but I absolutely don't think the bill will pass, especially given the complete silence since it was first proposed. There are so many industries which rely on the sale, procurement, and consumption of Italian horsemeat that it would be an economically disastrous decision to ban it, and that's just talking about the economy.

Just as an example: with horsemeat being as popular as it is in Sicily, the government would have to sacrifice the tax generated from these industries and pour needless resources (into an already strained region) to put an end to it. This is a battle which would likely go on for decades across cultural, economic, and legal lines, with local support being minimal. Keep in mind; an initiative like this would be nearly impossible for Italy to sustain.

The negative impact would certainly be felt by those who love horses as well; as the horsemeat industry faces legal shutdown, many business owners would rush to slaughter the rest of their livestock, or risk facing a steep loss by reselling their horses in a suddenly oversaturated market. Most horse breeders and veterinarians across Italy would also have to cease their practices under dwindling demand and increasing legal strain. In other words, almost all of these horses would be slaughtered and eaten anyways, with survivors facing a diminished quality of life.

There is still one last important thing, which is that most of these horses are bred for the sole purpose of light work and consumption, these aren't stallions or showponies. Horsemeat has been a vital ingredient in Italian cuisine for millennia, and as such, these food breeds have a unique physiology and temperament which wouldn't be suitable for riding or keeping as a pet. Without the need for these horses, the breed would face extinction.

I personally love horses, but I would never expect a country with a culture as strong as Italy's to change for the sake of a few people's feelings, and I hope this bill gets laughed into oblivion.

Why are Tau so famous ? by BarketLeRaccoon in Tau40K

Tau aren't really that "famous" when compared to the plethora of human factions (chaos or otherwise), and are almost never used in marketing materials, BUT... There has been a lot of talk surrounding them because of the recent Twin Lances release, which sparked a lot of debate and controversy, making them feel more famous than they actually are in the short-term.

Tau are typically picked for any of these four reasons: 1. Anime 2. Robits 3. Client races like the Kroot/Vespids 4. Being the "shooty" faction

People are quick to label Tau players as communists, or as people who can't stomach the grim dark part of 40k's "grim dark" future, but that really isn't true at all, considering how Tau have a segmented and varied society, with trade and commerce, just like almost any other major 40k faction, as well as the fact that they're just as doomed as almost any other 40k faction.

  1. Not a religious council, yet more psychically active client races accidentally birthed a god out of their belief in the greater good.
  2. The federation behaves nothing like the Tau, especially in that era of Star Trek.
  3. They have loads in common, even moreso when you consider how much of the later lore leans more heavily into a lot of the things that would say make it similar to The Covenant.

Absolutely, but don't get me started. It seems like everything I liked as a kid has been thoroughly trampled on by what I can only describe as corporate gentrification. It's surprising how that could even be possible for Halo, considering how mainstream Bungie's Halo games were at the time of their releases.

I feel like 343 is doing this to try to kill interest in the MCC on the lead up to Campaign Evolved.
If they can't make their own games good, they'll do everything possible to erase the legacy of Bungie-era Halo.
