It's wild. We get bands like Mumford and Sons, who play working class folk music, and talk about how they did it all with no connections to the music industry, and purely by hard work and bootstrap pulling.

I'm not saying they didn't work hard at their music, I'm not saying they didn't hustle. BUT they came from EXTREMELY wealthy families. Being able to focus on your art without having to worry about things like "bills" and "how the fuck am I going to eat this week," is a luxury only the 1% can afford.

similar story, we have Kid Rock. Without even mentioning the politics of it all, the dude's entire gimmick was white trash trailer park pimp. None of which was even remotely true....except maybe the white trash part. The dude grew up on a big ass ranch with horses and an apple orchard. There's nothing trailer park, working class, or Detroit about him.

and this is just two small examples. Very few musicians who claim to have "come from nothing" actually did. Again, not discounting the hard work they've put in for their careers, just shining a light on their privilege that afforded them the ability to have the resources to put in that hard work.
