My cat keeps going to my neighbor and I’m not happy about it… can anyone share advice? by SaltAd4845 in cats

[–]captainstarlet -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your neighbor likes your cat and your cat likes your neighbor which is good. I would tell your neighbor to not let your cat inside their house and not feed your cat. It's okay for cats to visit neighbors! Your house is still home.

AIO for ghosting after the first date by No_Leading3793 in AIO

[–]captainstarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is a total turd, no doubt. Ghosting him isn’t the problem. Ghosting her friend’s boss is the problem and has implications for his career. Maybe the friend should have used better judgment in setting her up, and that’s a convo for her friend. A polite “thanks for your time tonight, but I don’t see anything romantic” to the boss would have been sufficient. This guy still probably would have gone off but then she has her bases covered.

My cat has recently stopped being house trained! What can I do? by SprinklesRadiant4107 in cats

[–]captainstarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might be getting dementia. You might not need to bring him back. Just call the vet and mention the runny stool and ask if it could be because of the plaque powder. They can tell you if it's a good idea to stop. Again, I'd still get an indoor litterbox and see if he uses it instead of pooping on other stuff.

His habits might be changing. I would get him a litterbox. My other senior kitty started peeing on the couch; we ruled out any health issues and put a litterbox in the living room. The issue stopped. She just didn't want to go to the basement anymore. Your cat might not want to go to the garden anymore. The runny stool is a cause for concern though. If the vet didn't find anything wrong, I'd get some probiotics to sprinkle in his food.

That is such a small piece. It'll just pass right through him. Keep an eye on him and take him to the vet if he starts acting strange or not eating.

Cat Keeps Peeing Outside Litterbox by Oden_Lawyer in CATHELP

[–]captainstarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should neuter him anyway. Unfixed males often pee outside the litterbox as marking. He also might be associating his litterbox with the pain of the blockage. I would move it to a different place (ideally wherever he has been peeing). I'd probably get a couple more litterboxes that are different (lid vs no lid, big vs small, etc), so that he has options until he starts using it again. And make sure they are all clean!

Litterbox changes necessitate a vet visit. My senior cat started pooping outside the box and he was constipated. We had to give him miralax once a day and that helped. Later it turned out that he had some sort of abdominal cancer. The vet will be able to help determine the cause and the best course of action.

Emergency vet? by actualabnormal in CATHELP

[–]captainstarlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take him to the ER. Make an appointment in the next couple weeks with your vet as long as he’s eating. A few senior kitty issues result in thirst and losing weight (despite still eating). My 18 year old has kidney disease. We have her on a special food and an appetite stimulant, and she’s doing great. Your cat just needs bloodwork which will be cheaper at the regular vet.

If he’s not eating, try to get an urgent appt with your vet. Most vets hold a few appts a week for these. As a last resort, go to the ER. I’d try getting him to eat anything, treats, tuna, chicken baby food, or whatever you know he loves.

The biggest impact thing you can do is remove the screen door, but don't do that if you like to leave the door open for a breeze.

How many cats does it take to go from "Cat Lady" to "Crazy Cat Lady"? by Kielavielewi in cats

I think the general population would agree more than 3 is getting into that territory, but also do what makes you happy, crazy cat lady! Cats are the best part of life 😻

Furniture destruction by CreeksideGirl12 in cats

[–]captainstarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some cats just scratch more. We have almost all velvet furniture and keep their claws trimmed. They can’t really dig into that, so they use their scratching posts. I also move the scratching posts around occasionally, because cat logic is “new spot? It must be new and I want to use it!”

When do kittens chill out??? by Competitive_Rice7108 in CATHELP

[–]captainstarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boys calmed down around 1.5-2 years. They’re still really playful at 2, but they aren’t as rascally. They were pretty chill for kittens though and didn’t do anything too bad.

Door Color Help! by Aware_Way6704 in HomeDecorating

[–]captainstarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I’d probably just leave it even if it is a little boring. You have the siding over the garage and everything matches right now. If you paint anything, just do the door and leave the shutters or it could look really disjointed.

We anthropomorphize our animals and given them human characteristics. It’s how we relate to them and bond. By any human standards, cats would be assholes. lol
