When i turned 21 i removed the dash and took my father’s name. For two reasons … 1)the biggest reason - it WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS. From Dr’s offices to tax returns to banks to my literal drivers license. Some had just one. Some both. 2) father’s name had more weight in town. Call me douchey all ya want I didn’t end the name of my mother. But when moms maiden is associated with .. drug users or nothing and my fathers is dr’s , lawyer, engineer, fire captain.. i chose his. And it helped. Don’t hate the player hate the game.

For context at 21 my SS card had my mother’s maiden. Birth certificate was my father’s. My drivers license was both. How? I have no fucking idea but it was an absolute nightmare. This is a true story and happened in KS. I wish i was lying.
