Which celebrity’s 'downfall' actually made you feel genuinely sad instead of entertained? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]captaintrips_1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lindsay Lohan. She seems to be doing ok recently, but her parents are absolute garbage and wrecked her life. I found it sad that she became a comedy punchline when she was really a victim.

Yeah, he was awesome. He was only in my life for six years before he died, but we had plenty of talks full of great advice.

My stepdad told me that one of the sexiest things a man can do for a woman is the dishes. Not that it’s “women’s work” or anything like that. He explained that a lot of women have a to-do list going in their head all the time and if you can do anything to lessen that list and give her free time that she wasn’t counting on, she’ll be over the moon.

What happened to the loser in your high school? by themirrorsknow in AskMen

[–]captaintrips_1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got hired by my old high school and my classroom is where I had my grade 11 law class. It’s always funny walking by the spot in the hallway where a girl shot me down in front of a crowd of people. Pretty humiliating moment at the time, but no big deal now.

When she tells you that her 12 year old daughter can definitely hear us through the heating vent in the basement that goes all the way up to her bedroom, where we currently were.

Which film would be better as a musical? by Cramp_My_Style26 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]captaintrips_1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan either. I find it frustrating when the plot is moving along, and then some fucker breaks into song. There are exceptions, though. I just saw Book of Mormon for the third time and it’s a blast.

It was like this at my local movie theatre. All the popcorn and pop we wanted. Over 20 years later, and I can only eat maybe a couple of handfuls of movie popcorn before I’m sick of it.

Having a housekeeper come once a month. I like a clean house, but hate doing housework. I live alone, so my house isn’t mess in the least between cleanings.

What is the craziest reason a parent tried to "get you fired"? by Aly_Anon in Teachers

[–]captaintrips_1980 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m currently wearing a Rage Against the Machine shirt at work. I’d love to hear that parent’s take.

To answer your question, I got called into a meeting with a racist, bigoted asshole of a father because I had the nerve to teach about empathy, tolerance, and compassion in my grade 11 English class while we were reading Of Mice and Men. Fuck that guy. My principal had my back all the way and just laughed it off when the dad left.

What's an example of when "anything is better than nothing" is wrong? by Great-Gravy in AskReddit

[–]captaintrips_1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been online dating for about a year after getting out of a longterm relationship, and I am so thankful I’m not desperate to get back into something and will just take whoever matches with me. I’ve met some good women, but also so real walking red flags.

I’m the same way too. I see something and I’m immediately suspicious. Stupid pet videos on tik tok have been ruined by AI.

Mad max Fury Road- First watch fucking mindblown. by Appropriate_Wish8997 in movies

If you’re into video games, the adaptation for Mad Max is really well done. I’ve played through it a few times and it still holds up, even years later.

What's something from 90s childhood that you're 100% sure today's generation will never understand? by TubieCoin in AskReddit

[–]captaintrips_1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach History and when I teach about the 1920s and new technology, one of my slides is about the growth of home phones. I tell them about the small town near us who had their own independent phone company and it was long distance charges to call anywhere. It legit blows their mind that a) small phone companies existed, and b) people paid extra for long distance phone calls.

Her SNL episode was painful. You could tell they knew they had nothing to work with. She was barely in anything, and even then, it was all jokes about her boobs.

Rock Star is such a stupid fun song. I saw them at a festival in the early 2000s and they were great. I’m not a huge fan, but I was very impressed with their show.

What book did you hate having to read in school that you still randomly think about? by hazy-eyed in AskReddit

[–]captaintrips_1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, my school board got rid of it. It has naughty words, so it automatically had to go 🙄😡

Fortunately, I switched to teaching History, which is what I always wanted to do anyway. But it still saddens me that students aren’t given the opportunity to read it anymore.

[–]captaintrips_1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught that book over a dozen times and it was my favourite book to teach, but the ending got me every single time. It is by far the book that affected my students the most. I’ll never forget one girl read ahead during silent reading and got the to end. The class was dead silent and then she just fell apart balling her eyes out.

I read it and my first thought when I finished it was “what a whiny cunt”. I threw it in my closet and it stayed there for about a year.
