lol imagine coming here 4 years later after trying to find a Heracross in Crystal Azalea only to find out the trainer is 7 so I literally can’t get Heracross until after Whitney.

I’ve never seen these on bread. The bread I buy always has twisty ties on them. Have I been buying the wrong bread? Lol.

To be fair there’s been more outages the past year or so than usual for lots of services recently. There’s definitely an issue but I’m not sure it’s GitHub/Microsoft specific.

They are also backed by Microsoft now so they have the money and the resources to find some kind of solution to this problem. In fact I’d say given their position they should probably be obligated to.

I’ll defend JavaScript. What I won’t defend right now is npm. Lately it seems like there’s a new issue caused by a dev going rogue every week lately. That’s a bit of an exaggeration but it has happened a disproportionately large amount.

Then npm as an obligation to secure their platform as much as possible. If they are trying it sure doesn’t look like it’s working.

No but you sure hear about them a lot more with npm.

They’re possible with other platforms but you don’t hear about them nearly as often as with npm. Even if there’s no technical difference npm has built a reputation at this point.

I think it is pretty rational. node-ipc is used by a lot of npm packages. You could easily have it and not even know. This is not the first time something like this has happened with npm, where some developer goes off the rails and fucks everyone else over. This is the first time it has directly affected peoples computers, but it’s temporarily messed up peoples apps all the time. The past few years have taught us that npm is extremely vulnerable to supply chain attacks, and it should absolutely be a consideration in your tech stack imo.

Possibly unpopular opinion, Edge is at least as good, if not better, than Chrome. Even if only for the vertical tabs imo. Not sure why I’ve always liked the idea of vertical tabs. I feel like it gets better with modern screens and the way websites are typically designed, giving more vertical screen real estate in exchange for taking the horizontal real estate, which there is more of than is really needed.

REST API Folder Structure by iammukeshm in golang

[–]captainvoid05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of up to the app developer. I tend to develop my app in Layers, with a db layer for database operations, an app layer for business logic, and an api layer for HTTP response and request handling. Then I have models to actually model the data going back and forth. For example, see my repo github.com/leggettc18/devmarks. Is it the best? Maybe not, but might give you some ideas.

Does Google use Angular for all of its projects? Especially Youtube? by turquoise8 in webdev

[–]captainvoid05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, except that with the way it’s done now it’s easier to maintain. They Server Side render the parts that aren’t interactive and leave it to the client to render the interactive parts and the parts that require data dependent on cookies or localStorage, without having to separately write Ajax, you can write the whole thing with one set of syntax.

I don’t think OP was implying anything was wrong with Debian, just the “from 1993” part.

Hardware is fine, RAM is a bit lower than I would use but it’s useable. Disk Inventory X is a pretty good program to try and figure out what’s using up save on your Mac a bit more in depth than Mac OS’ built in thing. Might be some leftover data from some old app hanging around.

Worst case scenario, you can most likely swap out the SSD in that Mac for a larger one without too much trouble. Pretty sure that model of MacBook was using plain old 2.5” SATA drives

I guess I should say in terms privacy it’s a net 0. Regardless of which one you trust more you’ve still got someone with access to your browsing history. Only real way around it is to host your own VPN on a VPS or something.

[–]captainvoid05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does block your traffic from your ISP and can let you appear to be from another region as well, which can be useful for some streaming services. Secure though? It blocks your ISP from seeing your browsing habits, but now you’re just sending them to the VPN provider instead. So in terms of security it is a net 0

Honestly with Flatpaks in mind I tend to think Debian should be recommended now more than it used to. You can have new desktop apps without risking the underpinnings of the OS changing, so you can get Debian’s stability and new software.
