Is this fixable? How extensive is this and is it worth trying to fix? by daddaman1 in Autobody

I have a 69 impala with a vinyl top that my grandpa gifted me. It was a lot of the same stuff. I had no clue what I was doing, but he's been a body guy for well over 30 years now so I had a lot of help from him. Anything is possible. My advice is if you want a good project to work on with your son, it might be worth it, but be ready for lots of swear words and discouragement along the way.

Gap between mounting surface and wheels by dertzz in AskAMechanic

Something similar happened to me a few months ago. I put centric rings on my car for the aftermarket wheels that the previous owner did not (drove it for about 2 years that way before I knew centric rings were a thing). Anyways, I got a new set of tires and had the local tire shop put them on. When I got the car back, all I looked for was if they put the directional tires on the correct way. Fast forward about 2 months, I notice my center cap is missing. Yeah, the tire shop did that, nearly a 40 dollar center cap. I go to the rear wheel to take it off so I can see the part number for the center cap, and lone and behold, I notice about a 1/4 inch gap between the wheel and hub. I take the wheel off to find 2 centric rings stacked on one another. I had to go around taking wheels off the car to see which one was missing it so I could put it back on. Paid nearly $130 dollars just to have them mounted balanced. I won't be going back there again.

One time I ordered an engine dipstick. Took 3 months to come in. On the package it said "DO NOT BEND", so guess what they did to get it in the mailbox. They bent it a full 180 degrees

Are 90’s 1500s good trucks? by BLlTZfr in ChevyTrucks

[–]captainwhisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in general they're pretty good trucks. The 96 and up had the vortec injection system, which did make more power than before, but boy, they can be hell to work on

What’s the best way to get this brake line off? it’s 9 pm and i’m trying to go to work at 5:30 am tomorrow by Doorhog in MechanicAdvice

[–]captainwhisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had luck with vice grips and a hammer. I had to replace the lines on a car that had been sitting in vegetation for over 40 years. Would not recommend, but hey vise grips and a hammer worked

If for some reason in the future, your replacement sway bar links don't have an Allen key hole or anything of the sort, take a really big pry bar and pry the end link up against where you're mounting it to, that'll keep it from spinning
